Job Description
Job Summary:
A Computer Hardware and Network Engineer is responsible for installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining computer hardware systems, network infrastructure, and related IT services within an organization. The role ensures that all computers, servers, printers, routers, switches, firewalls, and other peripherals are operating efficiently and securely. It also involves diagnosing technical issues, implementing preventive measures, and supporting end-users with hardware and network-related concerns.
This position demands strong technical skills, a problem-solving mindset, and the ability to work both independently and in a team. The role is essential to maintaining business continuity and smooth day-to-day operations in any modern organization.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Hardware Installation and Maintenance

Assemble, install, and maintain desktops, laptops, servers, and peripherals such as printers, scanners, biometric devices, and UPS systems.

Diagnose and repair hardware failures, component issues, or performance degradation.

Perform preventive maintenance on computing equipment, including cleaning, testing, and replacing parts.
2. Network Setup and Support

Set up and configure LANs (Local Area Networks), WANs (Wide Area Networks), routers, switches, access points, and firewalls.

Monitor network performance and ensure optimal uptime, speed, and reliability.

Troubleshoot network connectivity issues including IP conflicts, DNS/DHCP problems, slow internet, and packet loss.
3. System Configuration and Support

Install and configure operating systems (Windows, Linux, macOS) and system software such as antivirus, drivers, and productivity tools.

Set up user accounts, profiles, permissions, and policies on local machines and network domains.

Maintain and troubleshoot email clients, shared drives, and backup systems.
4. Security and Compliance

Ensure proper security protocols are in place, including firewalls, antivirus updates, and OS patches.

Monitor systems for malware, unauthorized access, or abnormal activity and respond to threats promptly.

Assist in audits and ensure IT assets comply with organizational or regulatory standards (ISO, GDPR, etc.).
5. User Support and Troubleshooting

Provide first- and second-level support for all hardware and network-related issues raised by staff.

Respond to service desk tickets, phone calls, or walk-in queries in a timely and courteous manner.

Maintain logs of support requests, fixes, and updates in the ticketing system.
6. Documentation and Inventory Management

Maintain records of all IT assets including hardware components, software licenses, and network devices.

Document network topologies, cable maps, IP assignments, and system configurations.

Track warranty statuses, renewals, and lifecycle management of IT infrastructure.
7. Project Implementation and Upgrades

Assist in IT infrastructure projects such as office relocations, new facility setup, or server migrations.

Support system upgrades and the rollout of new hardware or network technology.
