Computer Hardware Engineer
Job Description
Key Responsibilities
1. Hardware Design and Development
-
Design and develop new computer hardware components such as motherboards, CPUs, GPUs, memory systems, input/output interfaces, and network hardware.

Create detailed schematics and circuit diagrams for hardware products using CAD software and engineering tools.

Select electronic components based on performance specifications, cost, availability, and compatibility with other systems.
2. Prototyping and Testing
-
Build and assemble prototypes for testing and evaluation purposes.

Perform rigorous hardware testing to identify functionality, performance, thermal behavior, durability, and potential failure points.

Work with simulation tools to model how designs will perform under various conditions before physical production.
3. Troubleshooting and Debugging

Analyze system failures and performance issues using test equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, and signal generators.

Diagnose problems in existing hardware, suggest improvements, and implement corrective changes.

Work closely with software engineers to debug systems where hardware and software intersect.
4. System Integration and Compatibility

Ensure hardware designs are compatible with operating systems, software applications, and firmware.

Collaborate with embedded systems engineers to integrate firmware into the hardware platform.

Validate system-level performance, reliability, and interoperability across various configurations and environments.
5. Documentation and Reporting

Prepare detailed documentation, including technical specifications, testing protocols, design changes, and performance data.

Maintain up-to-date records of hardware designs, revisions, and test results for regulatory compliance and internal reference.

Write technical reports and present findings to project stakeholders, engineering teams, and senior management.
6. Manufacturing and Production Support

Work with manufacturing teams to ensure design manufacturability, quality control, and cost efficiency in mass production.

Provide technical support during the assembly and production process.

Suggest improvements to streamline manufacturing or reduce component costs without compromising performance.
7. Research and Innovation

Stay current with the latest advancements in hardware technology, semiconductors, and embedded systems.

Evaluate emerging technologies and propose their integration into new or existing products.

Participate in R&D efforts to develop next-generation hardware solutions and products.
