Consultant Interventional Cardiologist - Mira Road
Job Description
Perform interventional procedures including coronary angiography, angioplasty, and stenting.
Evaluate and manage patients with complex cardiovascular diseases.
Participate in on-call duties as per departmental rota.
Collaborate with cardiothoracic surgeons, radiologists, and other medical professionals.
Lead clinical governance initiatives and contribute to audit and quality improvement activities.
Mentor junior doctors and participate in teaching and training programs.
Engage in clinical research and stay updated on advancements in interventional cardiology.
Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Assessment and Diagnosis:
-
Evaluate patients with suspected or known cardiovascular disease.

Conduct thorough clinical examinations, history-taking, and risk assessment.

Order and interpret diagnostic tests such as ECG, echocardiography, stress tests, CT angiography, and cardiac catheterization.

Interventional Procedures:

Perform diagnostic and therapeutic interventional procedures, including:

Coronary angiography
-
Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI)
-
Balloon angioplasty
-
Stent implantation
-
Temporary and permanent pacemaker insertions
-
Intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) insertion
-
Elective and emergency procedures
-

Use advanced imaging and catheterization techniques in the cardiac cath lab.

Manage procedural complications and emergencies with appropriate interventions.

Inpatient and Outpatient Care:
-
Provide inpatient consultation and manage patients in the coronary care unit (CCU), ICU, and general wards.

Conduct outpatient cardiology clinics, including follow-up care post-intervention.

Prescribe and monitor medications, including antiplatelets, statins, and anticoagulants.

Multidisciplinary Collaboration:

Work closely with cardiothoracic surgeons, anesthetists, radiologists, emergency medicine, and internal medicine teams.

Participate in case discussions, heart team meetings, and collaborative decision-making.

Refer patients for surgery or advanced therapies when necessary.

Patient Education and Counseling:

Provide pre- and post-procedure counseling to patients and families.

Explain risks, benefits, and recovery expectations for interventional procedures.

Promote lifestyle changes and preventive measures for cardiac health.

Documentation and Reporting:

Maintain accurate and timely medical records, reports, and case summaries.

Document all procedures, findings, and follow-ups according to hospital protocols.

Participate in audit, morbidity, and mortality reviews.

Training and Supervision:

Supervise junior doctors, fellows, or residents during procedures and patient care.

Conduct clinical training sessions, seminars, or workshops for medical staff.

Stay updated with advancements in interventional cardiology and adopt evidence-based practices.

Ensure adherence to hospital protocols, safety guidelines, and ethical standards.

Participate in NABH, JCI, or other accreditation-related processes.

Report adverse events or complications as per protocol and support quality improvement initiatives.
