Project Background
The ongoing metro tunneling project involves underground construction works in dense urban environments. A critical component of pre-tunneling activity is the Building Condition Survey (BCS) to document the existing state of buildings and structures within the Zone of Influence (ZOI) of the tunnel alignment.
This effort ensures that detailed records of structures are available before any potential impact from tunnel boring or excavation, serving as a baseline for monitoring, claims mitigation, and structural safety assessments.
Position Summary
We are hiring Contract Engineer / Civil Surveyor with experience in building condition surveys for infrastructure or metro tunnel projects. The primary responsibility is to conduct site inspections, assess the physical and structural condition of buildings and utilities within the tunneling influence zone, and document structural details comprehensively.
This includes mapping key elements such as walls, slabs, beams, columns, foundations, bore wells, and other utilities, identifying any existing cracks, tilts, settlements, or structural damage, and capturing photographic and written records for each surveyed structure.
Key Responsibilities
1. Site Inspection & Structural Mapping

Visit each structure identified within the designated Zone of Influence (ZOI) of the metro tunnel alignment.

Record and map all visible structural elements such as:

External/internal walls
-
Columns and beams
-
Slabs and staircases
-
Foundation types (shallow, deep, raft, isolated footings, etc.)

Cracks, tilts, settlements, leakage points, or signs of distress

Location and condition of bore wells, water tanks, and external utilities

Tag and mark structural features accurately on pre-prepared layout drawings or digital maps.
2. Data Documentation

Prepare detailed Building Condition Reports (BCR) with photographs, sketches, and observation notes.

Maintain geotagged photographic records showing structural elements and any damage or abnormalities.

Digitally input information into structured forms or databases as per project protocol.
3. Coordination and Compliance

Coordinate with survey teams, GIS experts, and site engineers to align on survey sequences and routes.

Ensure all documentation is carried out as per the standards of the metro authority or tunneling contractor.

Adhere to safety protocols and obtain consent for site visits from building owners or occupants when required.
4. Quality Assurance

Cross-check survey reports for completeness, accuracy, and clarity.

Ensure consistency in terminology, measurements, and observation classification.

Verify and validate the presence of pre-existing structural issues to prevent future liability claims.
5. Reporting and Communication

Submit daily and weekly survey progress reports to the survey coordinator or project manager.

Flag any building that shows signs of high risk or urgent structural concern for further engineering assessment.

Collaborate with geotechnical and structural engineering teams to correlate field data with tunneling impact analysis.
