Key Responsibilities

1. Meal Planning & Preparation

  • Prepare daily breakfast, lunch, evening snacks, and dinner based on the planned menu.

  • Ensure meals are nutritious, balanced, and tailored to the dietary needs of senior residents.

  • Follow instructions from dieticians, doctors, or management regarding specific meal plans for residents with medical conditions like diabetes, hypertension, or digestive issues.

  • Prepare food in appropriate textures for residents who may have chewing or swallowing difficulties.

2. Menu Designing

  • Assist in designing weekly and monthly menus with a focus on variety and nutrition.

  • Incorporate seasonal vegetables, fresh fruits, and healthy ingredients into meal plans.

  • Take resident preferences into account while ensuring nutritional adequacy.

  • Coordinate with management to ensure that special meals are prepared for festivals and events.

3. Hygiene & Food Safety

  • Maintain high levels of cleanliness in the kitchen, dining area, and storage spaces.

  • Wash, clean, and store kitchen utensils and cooking equipment properly.

  • Follow food safety guidelines, ensuring proper handling, storage, and cooking of ingredients.

  • Dispose of kitchen waste responsibly and keep the environment sanitized.

  • Ensure fresh and safe drinking water is available at all times.

4. Inventory & Stock Management

  • Monitor stock levels of groceries, vegetables, spices, and other kitchen essentials.

  • Maintain a proper inventory register and request fresh supplies in advance.

  • Check the quality and freshness of ingredients before cooking.

  • Minimize food wastage by using ingredients efficiently and planning portions carefully.

5. Special Dietary Needs

  • Prepare customized meals for residents with specific health conditions.

  • Understand low-salt, low-sugar, high-fiber, or soft-diet requirements.

  • Work closely with healthcare staff to ensure dietary compliance for residents under medical care.

6. Teamwork & Coordination

  • Collaborate with caretakers, helpers, and nursing staff to ensure timely meal service.

  • Coordinate with management for special occasions, celebrations, and guest visits.

  • Train kitchen assistants or helpers on food preparation, hygiene, and safety standards.
