Counter Sales Executive
Job Description
Job Summary:
We are hiring a Counter Sales Executive for our pharmacy/medical store. The ideal candidate should be responsible, well-organized, and familiar with medicines, their uses, and customer service practices. You will manage front-desk sales, assist customers with prescriptions, maintain stock, handle billing, and ensure overall smooth operations at the medical counter.
This role demands attention to detail, knowledge of pharmaceuticals, communication skills, and an ability to handle day-to-day store activities independently or under minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Customer Service & Counter Sales

Greet walk-in customers and understand their medicine or product requirements.

Assist customers with prescription-based and over-the-counter (OTC) medications.

Educate customers on dosage, usage, possible side effects, and storage of medicine (if required).

Suggest alternate medicines (if prescribed brand is unavailable) with doctor/pharmacist approval.
2. Billing & Bookkeeping
-
Generate accurate bills using POS system or manual records.

Handle payments via cash, card, or digital modes.

Maintain sales records, daily registers, and ensure reconciliation at end of the day.
3. Stock & Inventory Management
-
Maintain stock of medicines and other health-related products.

Sort and arrange medicines systematically according to type or brand.

Identify and remove expired or near-expiry medicines.

Maintain accurate inward and outward stock entries and track missing items.
4. Prescription Handling
-
Verify the authenticity of the prescriptions presented by customers.

Ensure correct interpretation and delivery of medicines as per the prescription.

Consult with in-house or licensed pharmacists if required before dispensing.
5. Expired Medicines & Returns
-
Regularly check for expired or damaged medicines and segregate them properly.

Ensure expired medicines are returned to distributors or disposed of as per regulation.

Keep an updated list of expiry dates and manage stock rotation (FIFO method).
6. Communication & Product Knowledge
-
Communicate clearly and courteously with customers, especially elderly patients.

Provide information about newly launched medicines, generic alternatives, and ongoing offers.

Stay updated on new medicines, brands, and pharma products in the market.
7. Cleanliness & Safety
-
Maintain cleanliness and hygiene at the counter, shelves, and store area.

Follow safety and storage guidelines for temperature-sensitive medicines.

Ensure all medicines are stored as per regulation (locked cupboards for scheduled drugs, etc.)
Required Skills:

Basic knowledge of medicines, their uses, dosage, and brands

Understanding of prescriptions and medical terms

Good communication in Hindi/English

Basic computer skills (POS billing, Excel, or inventory software)

Organizational and time-management abilities
-
High integrity and accuracy in cash and stock handling

Ability to remain calm under pressure, especially during busy hours
