Job Description
Job Summary:
A Counter Sales Representative is responsible for assisting customers at the sales counter, providing product information, processing transactions, and ensuring customer satisfaction. This role involves direct interaction with clients, both in person and over the phone, and often requires basic knowledge of the company’s products or services. The position plays a key role in retail, wholesale, parts supply, and other sales-driven industries where customer service and product knowledge are essential.
Key Responsibilities:

Customer Interaction:

Greet customers promptly and courteously as they approach the sales counter.

Identify customer needs by actively listening and asking relevant questions.

Provide information on products, services, availability, pricing, and warranties.

Offer advice and solutions tailored to customer requirements, promoting appropriate items or services.

Sales Processing:

Prepare and process sales transactions using a point-of-sale (POS) system or sales software.

Generate invoices, receipts, and purchase orders accurately and efficiently.

Accept and process different forms of payment including cash, credit/debit cards, or company accounts.

Handle refunds, returns, or exchanges in accordance with company policies.

Product Knowledge:

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the company’s products, including features, specifications, and benefits.

Demonstrate the use of products or explain technical details to customers where applicable.

Keep informed about new arrivals, discontinued items, and promotional offers.

Recommend alternative products when requested items are not in stock.

Inventory and Stock Management:

Check stock availability and assist with restocking the counter and display areas as needed.

Assist in receiving deliveries, unpacking products, and ensuring they are accurately recorded and displayed.

Monitor low-stock items and report to the inventory or warehouse team.

Maintain clean and organized stock displays to enhance the customer experience.

Customer Service and Support:

Respond to customer inquiries in person, over the phone, or via email with professionalism and accuracy.

Resolve complaints or concerns quickly and respectfully, escalating issues to supervisors if necessary.

Follow up with customers on pending orders, special requests, or additional needs.

Sales Reporting and Documentation:

Maintain accurate records of sales, customer interactions, and daily transactions.

Assist in compiling daily, weekly, or monthly sales reports for management review.

Ensure all customer orders are correctly logged and tracked in the system.

Collaboration and Teamwork:

Work closely with the warehouse, logistics, and delivery teams to fulfill customer orders.

Support colleagues during busy hours or when covering lunch breaks and absences.

Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and briefings as required.

Store Appearance and Maintenance:

Keep the counter and customer-facing areas neat, organized, and presentable at all times.

Ensure price tags, product labels, and promotional signs are accurate and clearly displayed.

Follow safety and cleanliness guidelines to maintain a safe environment for staff and customers.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent; a college diploma or technical certification may be preferred for specialized industries.

Proven experience in a retail, parts, or wholesale sales environment is an advantage.

Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

Basic computer skills, including experience with POS systems and Microsoft Office.
