Job Description
Key Responsibilities
Patient Preparation & Safety
-
Prepare patients for imaging procedures by explaining the process, answering questions, and addressing any concerns to help them feel comfortable.

Position patients correctly and safely according to the prescribed procedure to ensure accurate images are captured.

Ensure that patients are properly shielded from unnecessary radiation using lead aprons or other protective devices.

Assess and monitor patient condition before, during, and after procedures to ensure safety and well-being.
Imaging Procedure Execution

Operate X-ray and CT scan machines to obtain diagnostic images as per physician orders.

Capture high-quality images while ensuring minimal radiation exposure through appropriate techniques and settings.
-
Work with radiologists and physicians to understand the specific diagnostic needs and tailor imaging procedures accordingly.

Use contrast agents or dyes when required to enhance image quality, ensuring patient safety throughout the process.

Perform specialized imaging procedures such as CT angiography, CT scans for trauma, or full-body X-rays, depending on the facility's needs.
Image Quality & Documentation

Ensure that the captured images meet the necessary quality standards for diagnosis, ensuring clarity and accurate visualization of the body parts being examined.

Review images for artifacts or inconsistencies, re-taking images when necessary to ensure diagnostic accuracy.

Label and document all images correctly, maintaining accurate patient records and ensuring proper file organization.

Archive images into the hospital or clinic’s digital storage system (PACS – Picture Archiving and Communication System) for future reference and consultation by healthcare providers.

Assist radiologists in reviewing and interpreting images, highlighting any areas of concern for further analysis.
Radiation Safety & Protocol Compliance

Follow all safety guidelines and regulations related to radiation exposure, ensuring the safety of patients, staff, and themselves.

Ensure adherence to the ALARA principle (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) to minimize unnecessary radiation exposure.

Maintain, calibrate, and clean imaging equipment as per manufacturer’s instructions and institutional protocols.

Stay updated on safety protocols, new imaging techniques, and advancements in radiology.
Patient Care & Communication
-
Offer emotional support to patients, especially those who may be anxious about imaging procedures.
-
Assist in handling patients with mobility issues, ensuring safe transfer to and from imaging tables or machines.
-
Ensure clear communication with patients regarding what is expected during their procedure, including any preparation requirements or post-procedure care.

Provide post-procedure instructions to patients, especially if contrast agents were used or if follow-up visits are necessary.
Collaboration with Healthcare Team
-
Work collaboratively with radiologists, physicians, nurses, and other medical professionals to ensure optimal patient care and accurate diagnostic results.

Assist the healthcare team in identifying abnormalities in the images and contributing to the formulation of treatment plans.

Support the coordination of imaging schedules and ensure that procedures are completed efficiently and within time constraints.
Administrative & Clerical Support

Maintain patient records, ensure proper documentation, and provide accurate data entry into medical systems.

Schedule and prepare patients for upcoming imaging appointments, ensuring that all necessary information is collected.

Assist with billing and coding of procedures, ensuring accurate insurance documentation and patient billing.
