Job Summary
A Cutting Master is responsible for accurately measuring, marking, and cutting fabric for garment production. This role requires expertise in pattern-making, fabric handling, and precision cutting to ensure high-quality output in fashion, textile, or tailoring industries.
Key Responsibilities
1. Fabric Cutting & Pattern Making
- Measure and cut fabric according to design specifications and patterns.
- Interpret sketches, samples, and measurements to ensure accurate cuts.
- Create and adjust paper or digital patterns for different sizes.
2. Quality Control & Accuracy
- Ensure precision cutting to minimize fabric waste.
- Inspect fabrics for defects, alignment, and proper grain direction.
- Maintain consistency in sizing and fitting across garments.
3. Supervision & Team Coordination
- Guide and supervise tailors, stitching workers, and helpers.
- Work closely with designers, merchandisers, and production teams.
- Train junior staff in cutting techniques and fabric handling.
4. Fabric & Inventory Management
- Select appropriate fabric types and cutting tools.
- Maintain records of fabric usage, wastage, and stock levels.
- Suggest ways to optimize fabric consumption and reduce costs.
5. Pattern Adjustments & Customization
- Modify patterns based on customer or designer feedback.
- Work with custom orders, fittings, and alterations.
- Ensure proper grading for different sizes and styles.
