Job Description
Desktop Support Engineer or Technician, involve providing technical help for computer hardware, software, and network issues, ensuring smooth user operation through troubleshooting, installation, maintenance, upgrades, and user training, acting as the main contact for end-users to keep workstations running efficiently. Key responsibilities include diagnosing problems (hardware/software), installing/configuring systems, managing inventory, documenting issues, training users, and escalating complex problems.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Support & Troubleshooting:
Diagnose and resolve issues with operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux), applications (Office, browsers), printers, and network connectivity.
Set up new computers, install OS, software, drivers, and peripherals (printers, scanners).
Perform routine checks, apply security patches, update software, and manage hardware upgrades (RAM, drives).
User Training & Documentation:
Educate users on new tech, provide quick guides, and create/maintain support documentation.
Track equipment, manage licenses, and assist with procurement.
Log tickets, escalate unresolved issues to higher-level teams (Level 2/3), and ensure timely resolution.
Typical Levels of Support
Basic support, common issues, new user setup, password resets, ticket logging.
In-depth troubleshooting, server tasks, complex software issues, network issues.
System Administrators or Senior Engineers, managing servers, network infrastructure, major changes.
