Job Overview
A Desktop Engineer is responsible for installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining computer systems, desktops, laptops, and peripheral devices within an organization. The role involves providing technical support to employees, resolving hardware and software issues, managing IT infrastructure, and ensuring smooth day-to-day operations.
Desktop engineers are the first line of support for IT-related problems and play a key role in maintaining system performance, ensuring network connectivity, and securing organizational data.
Key Responsibilities
1. System Installation & Configuration

Install, configure, and maintain desktops, laptops, printers, scanners, and other peripheral devices.

Set up operating systems like Windows, Linux, or macOS based on organizational needs.

Install and configure business software, security tools, and productivity applications.

Ensure smooth integration of systems into existing IT infrastructure.
2. Troubleshooting & Technical Support

Respond to IT support requests from employees via phone, email, or ticketing systems.

Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues in a timely manner.

Handle problems related to:

Operating system crashes

Slow system performance

Application errors

Driver conflicts

Escalate complex issues to senior IT support or system administrators when needed.
3. Network & Connectivity Support

Configure LAN, Wi-Fi, and VPN connections for seamless network access.

Troubleshoot network-related problems, such as internet downtime, IP conflicts, and router issues.

Assist in configuring network printers and shared drives.

Support remote access for employees working from home or offsite.
4. Security Management

Install and update antivirus, firewall, and endpoint security tools.

Monitor systems for malware, phishing, and unauthorized access attempts.

Ensure data security by enabling encryption, password policies, and access control.

Regularly update software and operating systems to patch security vulnerabilities.
5. Preventive Maintenance

Perform routine system health checks to detect potential issues before they escalate.

Schedule and manage data backups to prevent data loss.

Clean and maintain hardware to extend system life and improve performance.

Maintain IT asset inventory for desktops, laptops, and other peripherals.
6. User Training & Support

Assist employees in understanding and using new software or IT tools.

Conduct basic training sessions on topics like:

7. Documentation & Reporting

Required Skills
Technical Skills
