A Desktop Hardware Engineer is responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting computer hardware systems and peripherals to ensure smooth IT operations. This role requires expertise in assembling, configuring, diagnosing, and repairing desktop computers, laptops, and related hardware. The engineer plays a vital role in supporting the IT infrastructure of an organization by ensuring that all end-user devices are functional, secure, and optimized for performance.
The ideal candidate should possess strong technical knowledge of computer hardware components, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively with end-users and IT teams.
Key Responsibilities

Installation & Configuration

Assemble, install, and configure desktop computers, laptops, and peripherals (printers, scanners, etc.).

Install operating systems (Windows, Linux, macOS) and necessary drivers.

Configure BIOS, hardware settings, and system preferences.

Hardware Troubleshooting & Repair

Diagnose and repair hardware failures, including motherboards, RAM, hard drives, power supplies, and other components.

Replace faulty parts and perform system upgrades as required.

Troubleshoot issues related to printers, monitors, and peripheral devices.

System Maintenance

Perform preventive maintenance to ensure desktops and laptops are running efficiently.

Ensure systems are protected with antivirus and latest security patches.

Monitor hardware performance and optimize system resources.

Networking Support
-
Assist in troubleshooting basic LAN/WAN/Wi-Fi connectivity issues.

Configure network printers, shared drives, and system connections.

Coordinate with the network team for complex connectivity issues.

Documentation & Asset Management

Maintain an inventory of hardware devices, warranties, and service records.

Document installation, repair, and troubleshooting processes.

Support IT procurement by providing hardware specifications.

End-User Support

Provide first-level support to employees for desktop and hardware-related issues.

Train and guide users on proper hardware usage.

Respond to IT support tickets and ensure timely resolution.

Skills and Competencies

Strong knowledge of computer hardware components and assembly.

Familiarity with operating systems installation, configuration, and drivers.

Ability to troubleshoot and repair desktops, laptops, and peripheral devices.
