Desktop Support Engineer
Job Description
The Desktop Support Engineer is responsible for providing technical assistance, troubleshooting, and resolving hardware/software issues for end-users.
Key duties include:
* Install, configure, and maintain desktops, laptops, printers, and peripherals.
* Troubleshoot OS (Windows/macOS), software, and network issues.
* Provide remote/on-site support for employees.
* Set up user accounts and manage permissions (Active Directory/Office 365).
* Ensure security compliance (antivirus, patches, updates).
* Document solutions and maintain IT inventory.
* Assist in IT projects (migrations, upgrades, deployments).
Skills Required:
* Knowledge of Windows OS, Microsoft Office, and basic networking.
* Experience with hardware troubleshooting and ticketing systems.
* Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
* Certifications like CompTIA A+, Microsoft IT Support preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
1. End-User Support

Provide first-line support to users for hardware, software, network, and peripheral issues.

Respond to tickets, calls, and walk-ins for desktop support needs.

Troubleshoot and resolve problems related to Windows, macOS, or Linux systems.

Assist users with software applications, printers, internet connectivity, and login/access issues.
2. Hardware and Software Maintenance

Install, configure, and upgrade operating systems and software applications.

Set up new desktop and laptop systems, and migrate user data when necessary.

Perform routine maintenance and repairs on desktops, laptops, printers, and other IT equipment.

Manage inventory of IT assets, including tagging and tracking equipment.
3. Network and Connectivity Support

Assist with basic LAN/WAN connectivity issues.

Configure and troubleshoot network printers and shared resources.

Work with the network team to diagnose user-level connectivity issues.
4. Security and Compliance

Ensure endpoint protection, antivirus, and security patches are up-to-date.

Follow company policies regarding data protection, security, and acceptable use.

Support compliance efforts by implementing secure configurations and assisting with audits.
5. Documentation and Reporting

Maintain accurate logs of issues, solutions, hardware usage, and system updates.

Document technical procedures and user guides as needed.

Provide feedback to IT management on recurring issues and areas of improvement.
