Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
1. Patient Consultations and Diagnosis

Conduct thorough physical examinations of patients visiting the OPD.

Take detailed patient histories and understand the nature of illness or symptoms.

Diagnose common ailments, infections, and chronic conditions using clinical evaluation and diagnostic tests when required.

Develop treatment plans, prescribe medications, and advise on further medical investigations or specialist referrals.
2. Medical Treatment and Follow-Up
-
Provide preventive care advice and promote healthy living practices.

Treat and manage acute and chronic illnesses such as hypertension, diabetes, infections, and respiratory conditions.

Offer post-treatment advice, rehabilitation plans, or routine check-up guidance.

Schedule follow-up consultations and monitor the patient’s progress.
3. Coordination with Hospital Departments
-
Refer patients to appropriate departments or specialists for further examination, diagnosis, or treatment.

Collaborate with laboratory, pharmacy, radiology, and nursing staff to ensure seamless patient care.

Coordinate with emergency, inpatient, and specialty units if complications arise that need higher-level intervention.
4. Documentation and Reporting

Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including symptoms, diagnosis, prescriptions, and treatment plans.

Use electronic medical records (EMR) systems or hospital information systems for case entries.

Prepare medical certificates, reports, or fitness documents as per hospital protocols or legal requirements.

Ensure all documentation is in compliance with medical, legal, and hospital standards.
5. Clinical Standards and Patient Safety

Follow established clinical protocols, standard treatment guidelines, and evidence-based practices.

Ensure hygiene, infection control, and patient safety standards are maintained within the OPD.

Handle patient grievances or concerns professionally and empathetically.

Respond to medical emergencies in the OPD and initiate life-saving interventions when necessary.
6. Administrative and Team Collaboration
-
Attend departmental meetings, clinical rounds, and training sessions as required.

Supervise junior medical staff, interns, or trainees if assigned.

Provide inputs for OPD scheduling, resource needs, and service improvements.
-
Participate in audits, surveys, or patient feedback initiatives for continuous quality improvement.
