Doctor of Philosophy Programme, IISER Kolkata
IISER Kolkata invites applications from motivated students for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) programme for the Autumn 2018.
The selected candidates can do Ph.D. in any of the following disciplines: Biological Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Earth Sciences, Mathematics and Statistics and Physical Sciences.
Biological Sciences
Applications are invited from motivated candidates having master's degree such as M.Sc/MS/ME/M.Tech/MVSc/MSc(Ag) degree or equivalent (with minimum 55% marks).
Project funded PhD student(s)
1. Area: Behavioural ecology, Evolutionary biology.
Essential Qualification: a) M.Sc in Life Sciences/ Environmental Sciences/ Zoology, with minimum 55% marks. b) Candidates need to have CSIR/UGC NET-LS/valid GATE score/INSPIRE. c) Knowledge of basic statistics and mathematics; must have mathematics at the +2 level. d) Experience of field work in animal behaviour/ ecology with mammals. Additional experience (desirable): Candidates with experience in working with dogs would be preferred.
Chemical Sciences
Minimum Eligibility Criteria: Bright and motivated candidates who have passed M.Sc. examination with minimum 55% marks in any field of Chemistry or Physics. There are two different channels for the admission in the PhD programme.
Earth Sciences
The Department of Earth Sciences (DES), IISER Kolkata is looking for bright and motivated students, who have completed their M.Sc. / MS / M.Sc. Tech / M. Tech (with minimum of 55% marks) in : 1) Geology / Applied Geology / Geophysics / Earth Sciences / Marine geology / any other branch of Geological sciences Or 2) Physics / Chemistry / Mathematics / Biological Sciences / Computational Seismology / Remote sensing and GIS / engineering / Environmental Science / Environmental Studies / Atmospheric Science, interested to pursue research with the DES faculty member in the matching specialization.Final year post-graduate students who are yet to obtain their degree may also apply.
Mathematics
Applications are invited from motivated candidates to pursue research in the broad fields of Bayesian Statistics, Computational Biology, Partial Differential Equations and Reliability. The minimum eligibility criteriafor each of the subject areasare as follows:
Bayesian Statistics: AMaster's degree in Statisticswith a minimum of 55% marks or CGPA/CPI of 6.5 on a 10-point scale.
Computational Biology: A Master's degree, with minimum 55% marks or CGPA/CPI of 6.5 on a 10-point scale, in any field of Applied Mathematics, Applied Statistics, Bio-technology, Computer Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Statistics.
Department of Physical Sciences (DPS)
Minimum Eligibility criteria: Applications are invited from motivated candidates having Masters degree with at least 55% aggregate marks in any field of Physical Sciences for the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program. Final year post-graduate students who are yet to obtain their degree may also apply; however, they must complete the MSc/MS degree at the time of admission with the requisite 55% aggregate marks.
Partial Differential Equations: A Master's degree in Mathematics or Statistics with a minimum of 55% marks or CGPA/CPI of 6.5 on a 10-point scale.
Reliability:A Master's degree in Mathematics or Statisticswith a minimum of 55% marks or CGPA/CPI of 6.5 on a 10-point scale.
Candidates having their own valid PhD fellowship (UGC/CSIR-NET JRF, NBHM, DBT-JRF, ICMR-JRF,INSPIRE or any other equivalent fellowship) are strongly encouraged to apply. A few Institute fellowships might be available for deserving candidates who have qualified any national level entrance exam such as GATE, NET-LS etc.(apart from satisfying minimal eligibility criteria), but do not have fellowship.
The Centre for Advanced Functional Materials (CAFM) of IISER Kolkata invites applications in the regular Ph.D. programme for Autumn semester, 2018 in the interdisciplinary research areas of:
