Job Description
- Electrical Substation Testing Engineer:
Job Location:
- Pan India ( Relocation as per project needs).
Job Responsibilities:
- Installation, testing and commissioning of substation equipment.
- Maintenance, troubleshooting and inspections.
- Adherence to safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:

Pre-Commissioning and Commissioning Testing:
-
Perform electrical testing and commissioning of HV and MV equipment in substations (typically 11kV to 400kV).
-
Conduct functional testing of protection relays (electromechanical, static, and numerical), control circuits, CTs, VTs, and SCADA interfaces.
-
Verify the correct wiring, labeling, polarity, and interlocks of panels and field equipment.
-
Simulate faults and trip conditions to verify protection schemes using test kits like Omicron, Megger, or Doble.

Routine Maintenance and Diagnostic Testing:
-
Carry out condition monitoring and diagnostic testing on substation assets such as transformers, breakers, and protective relays.

Perform insulation resistance testing, contact resistance testing, tan delta testing, SF6 gas testing, and dielectric withstand tests.

Analyze test data to assess equipment health and recommend corrective actions or replacements.

Ensure timely calibration of instruments and update test reports.

Protection System Configuration and Testing:
-
Configure and test various protection schemes including overcurrent, differential, distance, and earth fault protections.
-
Upload/download relay settings using manufacturer-specific software (e.g., SEL, Siemens DIGSI, ABB PCM600, GE EnerVista).

Perform relay coordination studies and verify settings with electrical design teams.

Document and validate protection logic schemes and trip circuits.

Technical Documentation and Reporting:

Prepare detailed test reports, commissioning checklists, and as-built documentation.

Maintain accurate records of test results, settings, and equipment parameters.
-
Submit reports to clients, consultants, or utilities for approval and project handover.
-
Assist in preparing operation and maintenance manuals.

Safety and Compliance:
-
Ensure all work is performed in compliance with electrical safety procedures, PPE requirements, and lockout/tagout practices.

Conduct site risk assessments and follow safe working practices in high-voltage environments.

Comply with IEC, IEEE, ISO, and local utility standards and codes.

Participate in safety toolbox talks, site inductions, and emergency response drills.

Team Collaboration and Coordination:

Coordinate with project engineers, design teams, contractors, and utility representatives.

Supervise technicians and junior engineers during testing and commissioning.

Attend project planning and progress meetings.
-
Report to the Testing Manager or Project Manager and provide updates on site activities.

Site Travel and Field Work:
-
Travel to substation sites across regions or countries as required by project schedules.
-
Be available for extended working hours, night shifts, or weekend work, especially during outages or emergencies.

Stay adaptable to varying environmental conditions and remote site logistics.
