Job Description
1. Pre-Commissioning Planning
-
Review project electrical design documents, schematics, single-line diagrams (SLDs), specifications, and equipment manuals.

Develop detailed commissioning plans, method statements, and test procedures for various systems.
-
Coordinate with engineering, construction, and client teams to align testing strategies with project timelines.
2. Equipment Testing and Inspection
-
Perform inspections and field testing of electrical equipment, including:
-
Transformers (power and distribution)
-
Circuit breakers (VCB, ACB, SF6, etc.)
-
Switchgear (LV/MV/HV)
-
Protection relays and control panels
-
Power cables and bus ducts
-
Generators and motors
-
UPS and battery systems
-
-
Carry out insulation resistance testing, contact resistance tests, ratio tests, polarity checks, hipot testing, primary/secondary injection testing, and functional relay testing.
3. System Commissioning
-
Lead the energization process of electrical systems, ensuring readiness and safety.
-
Commission power distribution systems, lighting systems, emergency power systems, grounding and bonding, and fire alarm integrations.

Ensure all systems meet performance criteria under both no-load and full-load conditions.
4. Safety Compliance and Risk Management
-
Implement electrical safety practices and isolation procedures during testing and commissioning.
-
Conduct hazard assessments and ensure all work complies with OSHA, NFPA 70E, IEC, IEEE, or relevant national codes.

Coordinate with HSE teams to ensure safe startup procedures.
5. Documentation and Reporting
-
Prepare detailed test reports, commissioning certificates, punch lists, and final acceptance documentation.

Maintain test data logs and as-built documentation for project handover.

Submit non-conformance reports (NCRs) and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
6. Coordination and Communication
-
Liaise with clients, consultants, project managers, and suppliers regarding technical issues and scheduling.

Supervise and coordinate the work of junior engineers and technicians during commissioning.
-
Participate in factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site acceptance testing (SAT) as required.
7. Troubleshooting and Rectification
-
Identify and resolve issues in electrical circuits, equipment malfunctions, and installation errors during commissioning.
-
Recommend corrective actions and assist in equipment modifications or reconfiguration if necessary.
8. Post-Commissioning Support
-
Provide technical support during initial operation phases.
-
Assist in training client or end-user personnel on system operation and maintenance.
-
Participate in warranty support, if applicable.
