Job Description
Mechanical Maintenance
Execute day-to-day mechanical maintenance activities for API manufacturing and utility equipment.
Carry out preventive, predictive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance.
Troubleshoot equipment failures and restore equipment within minimum possible downtime.
Maintain equipment reliability and availability through systematic maintenance practices.
Supervise maintenance activities on reactors, agitators, pumps, centrifuges, dryers, filters, compressors, vacuum systems, gearboxes, heat exchangers, storage tanks, and other process equipment.
Monitor equipment condition and identify potential failures before breakdowns.
Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for repetitive and critical equipment failures.
2. Preventive Maintenance & Reliability
Prepare and execute preventive maintenance schedules as per approved frequencies.
Ensure timely completion of PM activities and maintain PM compliance.
Develop and periodically review maintenance checklists and SOPs.
Monitor equipment performance, MTBF, MTTR, downtime, and recurring breakdown trends.
Identify reliability improvement opportunities and implement corrective actions.
Participate in equipment modification and improvement projects.
3. SAP PM
Create and manage maintenance notifications and work orders in SAP PM.
Execute and close preventive maintenance work orders within defined timelines.
Maintain equipment and functional-location records.
Update maintenance history and technical details in SAP.
Ensure accurate recording of manpower, spare parts, materials, and maintenance activities.
Monitor PM compliance and pending/open work orders.
Support preparation of SAP-based maintenance reports and KPIs.
4. GMP, Compliance & Audit
Ensure maintenance activities are performed in accordance with GMP requirements and approved procedures.
Maintain compliance with applicable SOPs, Good Documentation Practices (GDP), EHS requirements, and site procedures.
Support internal, customer, regulatory, and external audits.
Provide maintenance-related documents, records, equipment histories, and evidence during audits.
Support investigation and closure of audit observations, deviations, CAPA, and engineering-related compliance actions.
Participate in Change Control, deviation investigations, risk assessments, and CAPA activities wherever engineering input is required.
Ensure equipment maintenance documentation is complete, accurate, traceable, and readily retrievable.
5. Documentation
Maintain preventive maintenance records, breakdown reports, equipment history, checklists, logbooks, and work orders.
Prepare breakdown analysis and maintenance reports.
Review and update maintenance SOPs, formats, checklists, and procedures.
Ensure proper documentation of maintenance activities as per GDP requirements.
Maintain records related to critical equipment and engineering systems.
Support preparation and review of equipment-related technical documents.
6. Spare Parts & Inventory
Identify and maintain a list of critical mechanical spares.
Monitor spare consumption and availability.
Coordinate with Stores and Purchase for timely procurement of critical spares.
Evaluate spare requirements based on equipment criticality and failure history.
Support optimization of maintenance inventory and reduce unnecessary spare consumption.
7. Safety & EHS
Ensure safe execution of all mechanical maintenance activities.
Follow LOTO, work-permit, confined-space, hot-work, working-at-height, and other applicable safety procedures.
Conduct/participate in job safety assessments and toolbox talks.
Ensure contractors and technicians comply with site safety requirements.
Report unsafe conditions, incidents, and near misses as per site procedures.
8. Coordination & Team Management
Coordinate with Production for planned and breakdown maintenance activities.
Work closely with QA, QC, Validation, EHS, Utilities, Stores, and other departments.
Supervise technicians and maintenance contractors during maintenance jobs.
Plan manpower and resources for shutdown and major maintenance activities.
Ensure maintenance jobs are completed safely, efficiently, and within agreed timelines.

Qualification
Essential:
Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
Relevant experience in mechanical maintenance.
Preferred:
Experience in API / pharmaceutical manufacturing.
Working knowledge of GMP and engineering compliance.
Experience with SAP PM.
Knowledge of maintenance documentation, audits, CAPA, deviation, and change control.
