Job Description
Job Summary
A Field Engineer in the telecom sector is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing telecommunications equipment and network infrastructure. The role requires on-site technical support for network systems such as fiber optics, wireless networks, towers, and customer premises equipment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Installation & Deployment
Install telecom equipment such as routers, switches, antennas, base stations, and fiber optic cables.
Support deployment of wireless technologies including 4G/5G, LTE, and microwave links.
Configure network hardware at customer sites or telecom towers.
2. Maintenance & Troubleshooting
Perform preventive maintenance on telecom infrastructure.
Diagnose and resolve issues related to network connectivity, signal strength, and equipment faults.
Replace or repair defective components in the field.
3. Network Testing
Conduct testing of fiber optic links using tools like OTDR and power meters.
Perform signal testing and network performance verification.
Ensure compliance with telecom standards and quality benchmarks.
4. Field Operations
Travel to telecom sites, towers, and customer locations for installation or repair.
Maintain service reports and documentation for each field visit.
Coordinate with NOC (Network Operations Center) and engineering teams.
5. Safety & Compliance
Follow safety procedures while working on towers, electrical systems, and outdoor sites.
Ensure equipment installation meets regulatory and company standards.
Required Skills
Knowledge of telecom networking and wireless technologies
Understanding of fiber optics, RF systems, and microwave communication
Ability to use telecom testing tools and diagnostic equipment
Basic knowledge of IP networking and routing protocols
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
Ability to work in field conditions and travel frequently
Education & Experience
Diploma / B.Tech / B.E. in Electronics, Telecommunications, or Electrical Engineering
0â3 years experience for entry-level roles (freshers may be considered)
Experience with telecom vendors like **Ericsson, Nokia, Huawei, or operators like Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio is an advantage.
