Field Service Engineer
Job Description
Job Summary:
A Field Service Engineer (FSE) is responsible for providing on-site technical support, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair services for the company’s products and equipment at client locations. The role involves installing machinery, training clients, conducting preventive maintenance, and resolving breakdowns efficiently to minimize downtime.
This is a customer-facing, travel-intensive position that demands technical expertise, problem-solving ability, communication skills, and a strong commitment to customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Installation and Commissioning

Install machinery, equipment, or electronic systems at customer premises as per the technical specifications.

Ensure that all systems are functioning correctly after installation and perform initial setup or calibration.

Conduct performance tests and complete necessary documentation upon handover.
2. On-Site Maintenance and Repairs

Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, or software issues in the field.

Perform routine preventive maintenance and servicing to ensure optimal performance of installed systems.

Replace faulty components, upgrade firmware/software, and restore equipment to operational status.
3. Technical Support

Provide timely and professional support to clients, addressing complaints or technical issues.

Offer remote assistance where possible and escalate complex problems to senior engineers or R&D.

Explain issues, solutions, and preventive steps to non-technical users in a clear and polite manner.
4. Customer Relationship Management

Build and maintain positive relationships with customers through excellent service and support.

Understand customer needs and recommend service packages, spare parts, or upgrades.

Communicate service delays, product issues, or additional requirements honestly and professionally.
5. Training and Documentation

Train customer personnel on equipment usage, safety procedures, and basic troubleshooting.

Maintain accurate service records, visit reports, maintenance logs, and installation checklists.

Submit weekly/monthly service reports to management and ensure customer sign-off on tasks performed.
6. Inventory and Tools Management

Carry required tools, spare parts, and service kits to job sites.

Monitor and report consumption of parts and manage stock in the service van or depot.

Ensure tools and instruments are maintained, calibrated, and in working order.
7. Safety and Compliance

Follow all health and safety regulations while working at customer sites.

Use PPE and safety protocols when handling equipment or working in hazardous environments.

Ensure compliance with customer-specific rules and guidelines during site visits.
8. Continuous Learning and Product Knowledge

Stay updated with new product launches, software versions, and service techniques.

Attend technical training sessions, product workshops, and safety refreshers as scheduled.

Share customer feedback and insights with the internal team for product improvement.
Skills and Qualifications:
Educational Requirements:

Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Instrumentation, or related technical field.

ITI certification may be acceptable for junior roles with relevant experience.
Experience:

Preferred experience in a similar field service, technical support, or maintenance role.

Freshers with strong academic training and a willingness to travel can be considered for junior positions.
Technical Skills:

Knowledge of mechanical systems, electronics, control panels, or software interfacing (depending on product type).

Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, circuit diagrams, and user manuals.

Proficiency with diagnostic tools, multimeters, oscilloscopes, or proprietary service software.
