Job Description
Introduction
We are a leading MEP project-based company in Chennai, looking for an experienced and proactive Fire and Safety Officer to join our team. The role involves ensuring workplace safety, implementing fire prevention measures, and maintaining compliance with statutory safety regulations at project sites. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in occupational health and safety, experience in fire prevention, and the ability to train and guide project teams on safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities
1. Fire Safety Management

Implement and monitor fire prevention and protection systems at MEP project sites.

Inspect fire safety equipment regularly, including extinguishers, hydrants, sprinklers, and alarms.

Conduct regular fire drills, evacuation procedures, and emergency preparedness exercises.

Ensure proper installation and maintenance of fire detection and suppression systems.
2. Workplace Safety Compliance

Ensure compliance with national and local safety regulations, building codes, and project-specific guidelines.

Conduct regular site safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards.

Maintain updated safety policies and procedures as per statutory norms.

Prepare safety reports and submit them to the project manager and management team.
3. Training & Awareness

Conduct toolbox talks and safety awareness programs for workers and project staff.

Train employees on the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Educate site personnel on fire safety procedures, first aid, and emergency response protocols.
4. Risk Assessment & Incident Handling

Perform risk assessments to identify potential hazards in MEP operations.

Investigate accidents, near misses, and safety violations to determine root causes.

Recommend preventive measures and corrective actions to avoid recurrence.

Coordinate with local authorities and emergency services when required.
5. Coordination & Documentation

Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and contractors to ensure safe execution of work.

Maintain proper documentation of safety audits, training records, and incident reports.

Monitor subcontractors and ensure they adhere to company safety policies.
Required Skills & Competencies
Technical Skills

Knowledge of fire safety systems and emergency evacuation protocols.

Familiarity with MEP project safety standards and statutory regulations.

Proficiency in preparing safety manuals, reports, and presentations.

Eligibility Criteria

Education: Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Fire & Safety, Industrial Safety, or related field.

Certifications: NEBOSH / IOSH / Diploma in Fire & Safety preferred.

Experience: Minimum 1 to 2 years of experience in fire and safety roles, preferably in MEP or construction projects.

Location: Chennai (willingness to travel to project sites required).
