Job Description
Job Summary:
We are looking for a skilled and reliable Fitter to join our construction or engineering team. A fitter is a skilled tradesperson responsible for assembling, installing, maintaining, and repairing machinery, structural components, or mechanical systems according to precise specifications. Fitters work with tools, blueprints, and mechanical parts in various industrial, commercial, or infrastructure projects.
This role requires hands-on experience, physical fitness, and the ability to read and interpret technical drawings, ensuring that all installations and assemblies meet industry standards and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assembly and Installation

Assemble structural components, machinery parts, or mechanical units based on engineering blueprints and technical drawings.

Fit and position components such as frames, pipes, gears, and machinery at designated locations on site.

Use hand tools, power tools, and precision instruments to align, weld, bolt, or rivet parts together.
2. Blueprint Interpretation
-
Read and interpret project plans, assembly diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), and layout drawings.

Follow detailed specifications to ensure that parts are installed or assembled correctly.

Identify potential discrepancies in design documents and report them to supervisors or engineers.
3. Maintenance and Repairs
-
Perform routine inspections, adjustments, and maintenance on installed machinery and components to ensure smooth operation.

Identify and repair faults, replace worn parts, and restore systems to optimal condition.

Maintain equipment by applying grease, lubricants, or protective coatings to moving parts or metal surfaces.
4. Measuring and Marking
-
Accurately measure, cut, and shape materials using tools like micrometers, calipers, grinders, and cutting torches.

Mark reference points and guide lines on materials using measuring instruments and layout tools.

Ensure dimensional accuracy as per job specification and tolerance standards.
5. Safety and Compliance
-
Adhere strictly to workplace safety regulations, including use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Follow lockout-tagout (LOTO) procedures when servicing or installing heavy machinery.

Ensure all work complies with safety codes, environmental guidelines, and company protocols.
6. Team Coordination
-
Collaborate with welders, riggers, machine operators, electricians, engineers, and other tradespersons to complete complex installations.

Participate in team briefings, toolbox talks, and shift handovers to ensure seamless workflow.

Report work progress, issues, or material shortages to the site supervisor or project manager.
7. Tool and Equipment Management

Properly maintain and store tools and ensure they are in safe, working condition.

Calibrate instruments and request replacements or repairs as needed.

Operate hoists, cranes, or forklifts when required (if certified).
Key Skills and Competencies:
Technical Knowledge:

Strong understanding of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and metal fabrication

Proficient in using fitting tools: hammers, spanners, torque wrenches, pliers, chisels, etc.

Familiarity with grinding, drilling, cutting, threading, reaming, and tapping techniques
Drawing and Measurement Skills:

Ability to read mechanical drawings, blueprints, isometric plans, and structural layouts

Precision in marking, measuring, and cutting material to specification
Physical Fitness and Dexterity:

Ability to work in physically demanding environments (height, confined spaces, noisy surroundings)

Good hand-eye coordination, balance, and stamina
Problem Solving and Adaptability:

Ability to identify mechanical faults and provide practical, timely solutions

Capable of adapting to site-specific challenges or unexpected structural conditions
Teamwork and Communication:

Willingness to work as part of a team under supervision

Basic verbal communication to coordinate tasks and understand instructions
