Floor Maintenance Technician
Job Description
Job Summary:
We are seeking a responsible and hardworking Floor Maintenance Technician to ensure that all types of flooring within the premises are clean, safe, and well-maintained. The role involves routine cleaning, polishing, buffing, scrubbing, and repairing of various floor surfaces such as tile, marble, vinyl, wood, carpet, or concrete in commercial or residential buildings.
This position is critical to the overall cleanliness, hygiene, and safety of the facility. Candidates with experience in using floor cleaning machines, chemicals, and safety procedures will be preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Floor Cleaning and Upkeep

Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors on a routine basis

Deep-clean floors using scrubbing, buffing, or burnishing machines

Remove stains, spills, and dirt using appropriate cleaning solutions

Ensure floors are always dry and free of hazards to prevent slips or accidents
2. Machine Operation

Operate floor cleaning equipment such as:

Auto-scrubbers
-
Single disc machines
-
Buffing and burnishing machines
-
Carpet shampooing machines
-

Inspect equipment before use and report any malfunctions

Perform minor maintenance or cleaning of machines after use
3. Floor Polishing and Sealing

Apply wax, sealant, or polish on marble, vinyl, or tiled floors as instructed
-
Strip old coatings and reapply new layers using proper methods
-
Ensure polished floors are shiny, smooth, and safe for walking
4. Carpet and Rug Care
-
Vacuum and spot-clean carpets and rugs
-
Shampoo carpets using mechanical carpet cleaning machines
-
Remove dust, allergens, and odors from fabric surfaces as required
-
Ensure carpets dry properly and are not left damp
5. Surface Repairs and Touch-ups
-
Perform minor repairs on flooring such as replacing broken tiles or patching up worn carpet

Notify supervisors of major floor damage or issues requiring professional repair
-
Assist in moving furniture to access hard-to-reach floor areas during maintenance
6. Chemical Handling and Safety

Use approved cleaning chemicals and follow manufacturer instructions

Wear appropriate PPE (gloves, masks, boots) while handling cleaning agents
-
Store cleaning products safely and report any spills or hazards immediately

Follow health and safety protocols to prevent workplace accidents
7. Team Coordination and Reporting

Coordinate with housekeeping/facility teams to schedule maintenance activities

Maintain cleaning logs, usage records, and inspection checklists
-
Report completed tasks, floor conditions, or equipment issues to the supervisor
Required Skills & Competencies:

Knowledge of different floor types (tile, marble, wood, vinyl, carpet) and appropriate cleaning methods

Familiarity with operating and maintaining floor cleaning equipment

Physical stamina to work long hours, bend, lift, and move equipment

Ability to follow instructions and standard operating procedures (SOPs)

Awareness of safety precautions when working with chemicals and machines

Basic communication skills for interacting with supervisors or co-workers
