Job Description
We are looking for an experienced UNIX system administrator to join our IT department. As a UNIX system administrator, you will be responsible for the installation, configuration, and maintenance of our UNIX systems. In this role, you will troubleshoot server errors, install new system hardware, respond to user issues, and monitor the performance of the network.

Key Responsibilities:

System Administration & Maintenance:

Install, configure, and maintain UNIX-based operating systems (e.g., Linux, AIX, Solaris).

Ensure the stability, security, and performance of UNIX systems by applying patches, updates, and upgrades as necessary.

Monitor system performance and make adjustments as needed to improve efficiency, speed, and reliability.

Manage disk space, user accounts, and file systems, ensuring optimal system operation.

Perform regular backups and restore procedures, ensuring the safety of critical data.

System Configuration & Automation:

Configure and administer hardware, software, and networking components to ensure effective system functionality.

Automate routine administrative tasks using shell scripts, cron jobs, and other tools.

Develop and maintain system configuration documentation, ensuring consistency and ease of troubleshooting.

Security Management:

Implement and maintain system security measures, including user access control, firewalls, and encryption.
-
Monitor system logs for security events, identify potential vulnerabilities, and take corrective action as needed.

Ensure compliance with company security policies and regulatory requirements by performing regular audits and assessments.

Perform security patches and updates to maintain the integrity of UNIX systems.

Troubleshooting & Support:

Provide troubleshooting support for hardware and software issues on UNIX systems.

Resolve system errors, crashes, and failures, performing root cause analysis and applying corrective measures.

Assist end-users with UNIX system-related issues, providing guidance on usage and resolving technical problems.

Work with other IT teams to ensure smooth integration of UNIX systems with other platforms.

Performance Monitoring & Optimization:

Continuously monitor system health and performance using tools such as top, ps, vmstat, iostat, and others.

Proactively identify potential issues and optimize system resources to ensure maximum uptime and efficiency.

Implement system tuning for CPU, memory, disk, and network usage, adjusting configurations as needed.

Disaster Recovery & Backup:

Implement and test disaster recovery plans for UNIX systems to ensure business continuity.

Perform regular system backups, maintain backup schedules, and ensure data recovery is functional.

Manage off-site storage of backup data for disaster recovery purposes.

Collaboration & Documentation:

Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including network administrators, developers, and IT support, to address technical issues.

Document system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps to improve knowledge-sharing within the team.

Provide training and mentorship to junior staff on UNIX system administration best practices.

Software Installation & Updates:

Install, configure, and update various software applications on UNIX-based systems.

Ensure compatibility and interoperability of software across different UNIX environments.

Work with networking teams to ensure proper integration of UNIX systems with network infrastructure.

Configure network services such as DNS, DHCP, NFS, LDAP, FTP, and others as needed for proper system communication.
