Job Description

Maintain cleanliness in hospital wards, patient rooms, and common areas.
 
Follow infection control and hygiene protocols.
 
Dispose of medical and general waste safely.
 
Assist in sanitizing hospital equipment and surfaces.
 
Ensure availability of cleaning supplies and restocking when necessary.
 
Work collaboratively with hospital staff to maintain a safe environment.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Cleaning and Sanitation:

  • Room Cleaning: Ensure patient rooms, including beds, floors, furniture, and bathrooms, are cleaned and sanitized according to hospital standards.

  • Common Areas: Clean and disinfect waiting areas, corridors, staircases, and lobbies.

  • Restrooms: Regularly clean and sanitize restrooms, ensuring they are stocked with necessary supplies.

  • Waste Management: Collect and dispose of waste following hospital guidelines, including medical waste disposal, to maintain hygiene standards.

  • Floor Maintenance: Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors regularly, ensuring that all surfaces are spotless.

2. Stocking and Maintenance:

  • Supplies Management: Ensure that all cleaning supplies, toiletries, and hygiene products are stocked and readily available.

  • Laundry Duties: Collect, wash, and distribute linens, including bed sheets, towels, and patient gowns. Ensure they are kept clean and fresh.

  • Equipment Maintenance: Ensure cleaning equipment is in good working condition and report any maintenance issues to the supervisor.

3. Safety and Hygiene Protocols:

  • Infection Control: Adhere to hospital infection control guidelines to prevent the spread of germs and diseases.

  • Sanitation Protocols: Ensure that all cleaning tasks are performed using hospital-approved cleaning agents and methods to maintain a high level of hygiene.

  • Personal Hygiene: Maintain high standards of personal hygiene and wear appropriate protective clothing (gloves, masks, uniforms).

4. Patient and Visitor Interaction:

  • Patient Comfort: Be considerate of patients' comfort and needs while performing housekeeping tasks. Minimize disruption during cleaning activities.

  • Visitor Assistance: Help guide visitors or patients to different areas of the hospital when necessary, ensuring a welcoming environment.

  • Confidentiality: Respect patient privacy and confidentiality while performing duties.

5. Regular Inspections:

  • Inspect Areas: Conduct regular inspections of assigned areas to ensure cleanliness and report any issues or concerns to the housekeeping supervisor.

  • Maintenance Reporting: Identify and report maintenance or repair issues, such as leaking faucets, broken furniture, or malfunctioning equipment.

6. Supporting Hospital Operations:

  • Ad-hoc Tasks: Assist in other tasks as directed by the housekeeping supervisor or hospital management, such as assisting with special cleaning requests or event setup.

  • Shift Coordination: Ensure that all assigned tasks are completed within the shift, working efficiently to meet the department’s requirements.
