Job Description
Supervise daily housekeeping operations for patient rooms, ICUs, OTs, OPD areas, and common zones.

Allocate duties and schedules to housekeeping staff and ensure timely execution.

Conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance with hospital hygiene standards and infection control policies.

Coordinate with nursing, maintenance, and administrative departments for housekeeping needs.

Train and mentor staff on cleaning procedures, safety protocols, use of hospital-grade disinfectants, and biomedical waste segregation.

Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and place requisitions in a timely manner.

Handle patient or staff complaints related to cleanliness and take corrective actions.

Ensure strict adherence to NABH guidelines and other accreditation standards.

Monitor staff attendance, conduct appraisals, and enforce discipline where necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Supervision of Housekeeping Staff:

Supervise, monitor, and coordinate the work of housekeeping attendants, janitors, and support staff.

Prepare daily work schedules and duty rosters based on hospital shifts and occupancy levels.
-
Ensure staff members are assigned to specific areas such as wards, ICUs, OPDs, diagnostic units, operation theatres, or administrative areas.

Conduct briefings with the team at the beginning of each shift to communicate daily tasks, goals, and any special instructions.
2. Cleaning and Sanitation Oversight:

Ensure that all hospital areas are cleaned and sanitized as per infection control protocols.

Oversee deep cleaning, disinfection procedures, and terminal cleaning of isolation and post-operative rooms.

Maintain cleanliness standards in public areas such as waiting lounges, cafeterias, staircases, elevators, and corridors.

Ensure the availability of disinfectants, cleaning agents, PPE, and supplies for all staff.

Monitor and enforce color-coded cleaning practices and bio-medical waste segregation procedures.
3. Inspections and Quality Control:

Conduct regular audits and inspections to assess the cleanliness and hygiene of various hospital zones.

Ensure corrective actions are taken promptly when any deviation or complaint is identified.

Maintain records of inspections, feedback, and actions taken.

Work closely with infection control teams to ensure compliance with hospital hygiene standards and protocols.
4. Staff Training and Development:

Train housekeeping staff on proper cleaning techniques, usage of equipment, and safety protocols.

Provide induction training to new hires and periodic refresher training to all team members.

Promote awareness about hospital infection control measures, cross-contamination prevention, and waste disposal systems.

Encourage a culture of discipline, punctuality, and teamwork among the staff.
5. Inventory and Resource Management:

Maintain adequate stock of cleaning supplies, linen, tools, and equipment.

Raise requisitions for consumables in a timely manner to avoid shortages.

Monitor the usage of supplies to prevent wastage or misuse.

Ensure all housekeeping equipment (vacuums, floor scrubbers, etc.) are in working condition and serviced regularly.
6. Communication and Coordination:

Coordinate with nursing, facility management, and infection control departments to address cleaning needs in critical care units and emergency zones.

Respond promptly to urgent cleaning or sanitation requirements (e.g., spills, biohazard events, or code yellow situations).

Handle complaints from patients, staff, or visitors regarding housekeeping services and resolve issues swiftly.

Maintain effective communication with vendors or outsourced cleaning teams, if applicable.
7. Reporting and Documentation:

Maintain attendance records, shift reports, cleaning schedules, inspection checklists, and incident logs.

Report staffing needs, shortages, and performance issues to the Housekeeping Manager or HR.

Track daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning performance and submit reports to the management.

Assist in preparing compliance documents for hospital audits and accreditations (e.g., NABH, JCI).
