Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Monitoring and Care:
-
Monitor vital signs, consciousness levels, and clinical parameters of ICU patients regularly.

Carry out daily patient rounds and document clinical progress in patient files.

Administer prescribed medications, intravenous fluids, and therapies as directed by the ICU consultant.

Respond to any signs of patient deterioration and initiate necessary interventions.
Clinical Procedures and Emergency Response:
-
Assist in the initiation of ventilators, BiPAP, central lines, and other life-support systems under supervision.

Perform basic procedures such as IV cannulation, catheterization, Ryle’s tube insertion, ABG sampling, and ECG interpretation.

Participate actively in code blue situations and resuscitation procedures, including CPR and airway management.
Coordination with Medical Teams:
-
Communicate and coordinate effectively with ICU consultants, nursing staff, and allied health professionals.

Ensure that clinical decisions made by the ICU team are implemented correctly and documented accurately.

Notify the consultant on duty of significant changes in a patient’s condition or lab results.
Documentation and Reporting:

Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records for each ICU patient, including daily notes, prescriptions, progress reports, and treatment orders.

Ensure proper handover between shifts through verbal briefings and written reports.

Update patient families (under guidance from senior doctors) about progress and clinical status.
Medical Equipment Handling:

Operate and monitor ICU equipment, including ventilators, infusion pumps, monitors, and defibrillators.

Ensure that all life-support systems are functioning optimally and troubleshoot basic technical issues.
Infection Control and Hygiene:
-
Follow strict infection control practices and hospital hygiene standards.

Ensure aseptic precautions are maintained during all procedures and patient interactions.
Training and Continuous Learning:

Participate in case discussions, journal clubs, and training programs organized by the ICU department.

Stay updated with recent advances in critical care, medications, and emergency response protocols.
