Job Description

Monitor and assess critically ill patients, providing necessary care and treatment.

Administer medications, IV infusions, and other treatments as per doctor’s instructions.

Operate and manage life-supporting medical equipment such as ventilators and cardiac monitors.

Maintain accurate patient records and report any changes in patient conditions.

Collaborate with doctors, specialists, and other healthcare professionals for comprehensive patient care.

Follow infection control protocols and ensure a safe environment for patients.

Provide emotional support to patients and their families during critical situations.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Patient Care and Monitoring

Monitor Vital Signs: Continuously monitor patients’ vital signs (heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, etc.), making necessary adjustments to care as required.
Administer Medications: Administer prescribed medications, intravenous (IV) fluids, and other treatments, ensuring proper dosages and patient reactions are observed.
Provide Direct Care: Assist with patient hygiene, comfort, and other basic care needs such as feeding, turning, and repositioning patients to prevent complications.
Assess Condition: Regularly assess patients' conditions, noting changes, and communicate with the medical team about updates, concerns, or patient progress.

2. Critical Care Management

Assist with Procedures: Assist doctors in performing medical procedures such as intubations, catheter placements, or dialysis.
Ventilator Management: Monitor and manage mechanical ventilation settings, ensuring patient stability and proper respiratory support.
Emergency Response: Respond promptly to emergency situations, assisting with resuscitation efforts, administering CPR, and implementing life-saving measures when necessary.
Patient Safety: Ensure that all ICU protocols related to infection control, hygiene, and patient safety are followed.

3. Collaboration and Communication

Collaborate with the ICU Team: Work closely with ICU physicians, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and execute patient care plans.
Communicate with Families: Provide regular updates to patients’ families on their condition, treatment plans, and recovery progress while offering emotional support.
Patient Records and Documentation: Maintain accurate, up-to-date patient records and documentation of procedures, medications, and nursing interventions.

4. Preventative Care and Infection Control

Prevent Infections: Follow proper infection control practices such as hand hygiene, isolation procedures, and sterile techniques to reduce the risk of hospital-acquired infections.
Monitor for Complications: Keep an eye out for complications such as pressure ulcers, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), or ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP), and take preventive measures accordingly.

5. Education and Training

Patient and Family Education: Provide education to patients and their families regarding the patient’s condition, treatments, and post-ICU care requirements.
Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional development, training, and certification to stay current with ICU practices, equipment, and technologies.
