Job Description
The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) invites applications for 1 Post-Doctoral Fellow for research and analysis work in a project entitled “Ceramic Petrology and Provenance Studies of Harappan Ceramics from the Drishadvati and Sutlej plains during the third millennium BCE”

3. Job description:
i. The successful applicant will play crucial role in undertaking research, analysis, and development of a Ceramic Petrology lab at the Archaeological Sciences Centre, IITGN along with working in the project mentioned above.
ii. The basic job profile includes undertaking archaeological research on ceramics, sample preparation of ceramic samples and thin sections, analysis of thin sections using polarizing microscope and evaluating the results using all parameters.
iv. The job profile also includes development of a database for ceramic petrology of pottery samples from different cultures and time periods.
v. The evaluation of the candidates will be done periodically based on their research output in the form of reports, publications in leading international journals of impact value.
vi. The applicant must be highly selfmotivated, independent, enthusiastic, and interested in working within interdisciplinary teams consisting of archaeologists and scientists from diverse backgrounds to investigate and reconstruct past human-animal interactions
vii. The fellow will also receive necessary training and mentorship in scientific archaeological research methods and analyses.
4. Eligibility:
i. The applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Geology / Archaeological Sciences / Archaeology with science background at least up to under graduation level, from recognized institutions / universities with good academic track record and publications.
ii. The candidates who have submitted their thesis are also eligible.
iii. The candidates shall demonstrate proficiency in sample preparation (preparation of thin sections) for analyses, laboratory procedures and analytics, handling relevant equipment (Sample preparation equipment, Polarizing Microscope) and interpretation of results.
iv. They shall also possess sufficient knowledge and proficiency in undertaking the studies. An interest in Archaeological Sciences and fieldwork is desirable but not essential.
5. Duration: ONE year appointment with possibility of extension for another year based on the performance.
6. Remuneration: INR 45,000 to 55,000 per month with INR 10,000 (HRA), depending on qualifications and experience.
