Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
1. Fitting & Assembly Work:
-
Perform mechanical fitting and assembly of machine parts and components according to design specifications.

Align and position parts using manual tools, clamps, fixtures, and jigs.

Assemble small to medium-sized equipment, tools, and machines by using screws, bolts, rivets, and welding (if trained).
2. Filing & Surface Preparation:
-
Use hand files to smooth, deburr, and shape metal surfaces and component edges.
-
Prepare mating surfaces to ensure proper alignment and contact between parts.

Work with different metals and materials such as mild steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and brass.
3. Blueprint and Drawing Interpretation:
-
Read and understand engineering drawings, part diagrams, and instruction manuals.

Follow dimensional tolerances and surface finish requirements as per the design.

Identify part orientation, center lines, and reference points for accurate fitting.
4. Use of Tools and Instruments:
-
Use hand tools such as files, hammers, chisels, punches, screwdrivers, and spanners.

Operate basic workshop equipment like bench vices, hand drills, and grinders.

Use precision measuring instruments like vernier calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and dial indicators to ensure proper dimensions and clearances.
5. Quality Control and Inspection:
-
Inspect assembled parts to ensure they meet tolerance and functional requirements.

Check alignment, movement, and fit of moving components and assemblies.

Report defects, dimensional deviations, or part damage to the supervisor.
6. Maintenance and Workshop Safety:
-
Maintain tools, equipment, and workstations in clean and good working condition.

Follow safety protocols, wear protective equipment (helmet, gloves, goggles, etc.), and ensure safe handling of tools and components.

Participate in toolbox talks and comply with company and industry safety regulations.
7. Coordination and Reporting:
-
Collaborate with other fitters, welders, machinists, and supervisors to complete assembly tasks efficiently.

Maintain daily work records and inform the supervisor of any issues or delays.

Assist in machine testing and trial runs when required.
