Care Engineering College is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Lab Assistant to support the Mechanical Engineering Department. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background and proficiency in AutoCAD for design and drafting tasks. This role involves assisting faculty and students in lab activities, maintaining equipment, and contributing to an effective learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Lab Setup and Preparation:

Prepare laboratory instruments and setups before practical sessions or experiments.

Ensure all materials, tools, and components required for practicals are available and in good condition.

Assist faculty in setting up machines, test rigs, and experiment models.
2. Student and Faculty Support:
-
Guide and assist students during lab experiments, ensuring correct procedures are followed.

Help in the demonstration of equipment operation under the supervision of faculty.

Provide technical support during workshops, practical exams, and training sessions.
3. Equipment Maintenance and Calibration:
-
Perform regular maintenance, servicing, and calibration of mechanical equipment (e.g., lathes, milling machines, tensile testing machines, hydraulic apparatus, etc.).

Report and log faults, breakdowns, or wear-and-tear of machines and tools.

Ensure all equipment operates safely and effectively.
4. Inventory Management:

Maintain records of tools, consumables, equipment, and spare parts.

Monitor usage and replenish stock as required.

Keep an updated inventory list and raise purchase requisitions when needed.
5. Safety and Cleanliness:

Enforce laboratory safety procedures and ensure compliance with institutional guidelines.

Conduct regular checks to ensure equipment is being used correctly and safely.

Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the laboratory at all times.

Display safety signage and instructions near hazardous machinery.
6. Documentation and Record-Keeping:

Record observations, test results, or reports as directed by faculty or supervisors.

Assist in preparing lab manuals, experiment sheets, and logs.

Maintain records of student attendance, lab usage, and equipment checkouts.
7. Administrative Assistance:

Support the department in organizing lab-related events, technical fests, or industrial visits.

Assist faculty with printing, photocopying, or distributing lab materials.

Support in documentation required for inspections, audits, or NAAC/NBA accreditation.
Required Skills and Competencies:

Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with mechanical workshop tools and laboratory equipment such as:

Lathe machine

Milling machine

Drilling machine

Universal testing machine (UTM)

Hydraulic & pneumatic trainers

Heat transfer and thermodynamics apparatus

CAD/CAM software (basic understanding preferred)

Attention to Detail: Ability to spot wear, faults, and irregularities in tools or machine behavior.

Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, and vendors.

Organizational Skills: Good record-keeping, inventory tracking, and time management.

Educational Qualifications:

Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (mandatory)

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Maintenance (preferred for growth)

Relevant certification in workshop/lab safety or tools handling is a plus
