Job Description
Perform routine laboratory tests and experiments according to standard operating procedures (SOPs)
-
Prepare specimens, samples, and reagents for analysis
-
Operate and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment
-
Record and analyze data accurately and maintain detailed logs of all procedures and results
-
Ensure laboratory cleanliness and compliance with safety and regulatory standards
-
Assist in the development and validation of new testing methods
-
Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and reagents
-
Collaborate with other technicians, scientists, and medical personnel as needed
Key Responsibilities:
1. Sample Collection & Preparation:
-
Collect blood, urine, stool, sputum, swabs, and other clinical specimens from inpatients, outpatients, and emergency cases.
-
Label and prepare samples for testing, ensuring proper storage and transportation to preserve sample integrity.
-
Follow infection control and biosafety procedures while handling specimens.
2. Diagnostic Testing:
-
Perform routine and specialized tests in areas such as:
-
Hematology (CBC, ESR, coagulation tests)
-
Biochemistry (blood sugar, liver/kidney function tests, lipid profiles)
-
Microbiology (cultures, antibiotic sensitivity tests)
-
Immunology (HIV, HBsAg, dengue, typhoid, etc.)
-
Clinical pathology (urinalysis, stool analysis, semen analysis)
-

Operate lab equipment such as centrifuges, analyzers, incubators, microscopes, and autoanalyzers.
3. Reporting & Documentation:
-
Record and analyze test data accurately and promptly.
-
Enter results into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) or manual records.

Ensure timely delivery of test reports to the concerned medical departments.
-
Cross-check abnormal results and report them immediately to the supervising pathologist or physician.
4. Equipment Maintenance & Quality Control:
-
Calibrate and maintain laboratory instruments on a regular basis.
-
Participate in internal and external quality assurance programs.
-
Keep records of machine maintenance logs and reagent usage.
-
Report any equipment malfunction or safety hazard to the lab in-charge.
5. Inventory Management:
-
Monitor stock levels of reagents, consumables, and disposables.
-
Inform the lab supervisor of any shortages or restocking needs.
-
Ensure proper storage of chemicals and biological materials.
6. Safety & Compliance:
-
Adhere to all hospital and laboratory safety protocols.
-
Use personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
-
Dispose of biohazard and sharps waste according to hospital policy and biomedical waste management rules.

Comply with NABL, ISO, or other applicable lab standards and accreditations.
