Job Description
Collect and label blood, urine, stool, sputum, and other biological specimens from patients.

Conduct a wide range of tests including hematology, biochemistry, microbiology, serology, and clinical pathology.

Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as analyzers, centrifuges, and microscopes.

Accurately record and analyze test results and report findings to medical staff or enter into hospital information systems (HIS/LIS).

Prepare reagents, slide preparations, and specimens for examination.

Ensure proper calibration, cleaning, and sterilization of lab instruments.
-
Follow standard protocols for sample handling, storage, and disposal of biohazardous waste.
-
Maintain detailed and up-to-date laboratory records and documentation.

Adhere to quality control standards and participate in internal and external quality assurance programs.
-
Ensure compliance with hospital policies and regulatory guidelines regarding lab safety and infection control.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Sample Collection and Preparation:
-
Receive and log patient samples (blood, urine, stool, tissue, etc.) and ensure accurate labeling and documentation.

Prepare samples for testing using appropriate techniques such as centrifuging, pipetting, diluting, or staining.
-
Maintain proper storage of samples before and after testing to preserve specimen integrity.
-
Collect samples directly from patients (if qualified), ensuring safe and hygienic collection methods in compliance with medical protocols.
2. Conducting Laboratory Tests:

Perform routine and specialized diagnostic tests in areas such as hematology, biochemistry, microbiology, serology, and pathology.

Operate laboratory equipment such as microscopes, centrifuges, hematology analyzers, spectrophotometers, incubators, and other devices.

Conduct tests with high accuracy and precision, following standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Analyze test results and alert senior lab personnel or physicians in case of critical or abnormal findings.
3. Equipment Handling and Maintenance:

Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment regularly to ensure functionality and accuracy.

Identify and troubleshoot issues with lab instruments or systems and report faults promptly.

Ensure proper cleaning and sterilization of equipment and work areas to maintain a contamination-free environment.
4. Quality Assurance and Compliance:

Follow all quality control procedures to ensure test accuracy, consistency, and repeatability.

Maintain proper documentation of all test results, maintenance logs, and quality control reports.

Adhere strictly to safety protocols, infection control procedures, and legal regulations.

Ensure compliance with standards set by regulatory bodies such as NABL, ISO, or local health departments.
5. Recordkeeping and Reporting:

Accurately enter test data and results into laboratory information systems (LIS) or patient health records.

Generate clear and concise laboratory reports, ensuring timely delivery to physicians, patients, or researchers.

Maintain an organized filing system for patient records, test logs, and laboratory documentation.
6. Inventory and Supply Management:

Monitor laboratory inventory levels and request orders for reagents, glassware, chemicals, and consumables.

Store laboratory supplies according to safety and storage requirements, ensuring no stockouts or wastage.

Handle hazardous materials carefully and dispose of waste according to biomedical waste management protocols.
7. Team Collaboration and Support:

Collaborate with doctors, nurses, pathologists, and other technicians to ensure smooth workflow and patient care.

Assist senior lab technicians and supervisors in research activities, audits, and data analysis when needed.

Provide training or guidance to interns or junior staff as required.
