Job Description
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Lineman to oversee the operations of a production line in a garment manufacturing unit. The Lineman is responsible for ensuring smooth workflow, efficient line balancing, and achieving daily production targets by managing sewing operators, helpers, and related support staff. This position plays a critical role in maintaining quality, productivity, and discipline on the floor.
The ideal candidate should have prior experience in handling garment production lines, a clear understanding of garment construction, and strong leadership and coordination skills. Knowledge of different types of machines (e.g., single needle, overlock, flatlock) and various garment styles is essential.
Key Responsibilities
1. Line Setup and Supervision

Set up and organize the production line as per the style, operation sequence, and production plan.

Coordinate with the Production Manager and IE (Industrial Engineering) team to ensure correct line layout and operator allocation.

Supervise sewing operators and helpers across the line and monitor daily output and efficiency.

Ensure each operator understands their operation clearly before starting production.
2. Production Monitoring

Ensure the smooth functioning of the line to meet daily, weekly, and monthly production targets.

Identify bottlenecks or issues affecting productivity and take corrective action immediately.

Ensure proper usage and maintenance of machines and tools by line workers.

Report production output, line efficiency, and downtime reasons to the Line Supervisor or Production Head.
3. Quality Control

Ensure that every operation is performed as per the quality standards defined for the style.

Conduct in-line quality checks and take immediate action for defect correction.

Communicate quality issues to the Quality Inspector and take joint action to prevent recurrence.

Reduce rejection and rework by ensuring process discipline.
4. Workforce Management

Supervise and motivate the team of operators to maintain productivity and morale.

Maintain discipline, attendance, and time management on the line.

Support new operators with guidance or training for specific operations when required.

Coordinate with HR or admin for any worker-related concerns.
5. Coordination & Communication
-
Coordinate with other departments such as cutting, finishing, quality, maintenance, and stores for line-related requirements.

Update the Line Supervisor about progress, delays, machine breakdowns, or operator absences.

Ensure timely input feeding from the cutting department and output delivery to the finishing section.
6. Line Balancing & Method Improvement

Assist the IE team in line balancing based on style complexity and operator skill level.

Suggest operation reallocation or method changes to improve output or reduce fatigue.

Recommend process improvements or machine attachments to improve efficiency.
7. Safety & Compliance
-
Ensure all safety guidelines and factory rules are followed by operators.

Promote clean and organized working conditions.

Report any machine malfunction, accident, or safety hazard immediately.
