Job Description
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Machine Design Engineer with strong proficiency in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and preferably CATIA and Pro-E (Creo) to join our mechanical engineering team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in designing mechanical components and systems specifically for machine manufacturing applications.
This role involves using CAD software (SolidWorks and AutoCAD) to conceptualize, model, and document mechanical systems and assemblies. The Machine Design Engineer is expected to work on detailed 2D/3D designs, produce technical drawings, generate Bill of Materials (BOMs), and ensure compliance with industry and company standards. In addition, the role may involve resolving technical issues, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and occasionally managing small design or R&D projects.
Key Responsibilities:
1. CAD Design and Modeling

Develop detailed 2D and 3D mechanical designs using SolidWorks and AutoCAD for machine components, assemblies, and systems.

Create accurate technical drawings for manufacturing, including assembly drawings, fabrication details, and installation layouts.

Utilize parametric modeling techniques to allow design scalability and easy modifications.

Apply GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) to drawings to ensure manufacturing accuracy.
2. Machine Manufacturing and Engineering Support

Design machine elements such as shafts, gears, cams, bearings, fasteners, and structural frameworks.

Ensure designs are manufacturable, cost-effective, and meet performance, safety, and reliability standards.

Work closely with production teams to ensure seamless transition from design to manufacturing.

Support fabrication and assembly processes by providing guidance and making on-the-spot design modifications as necessary.
3. BOM Generation and Documentation

Prepare and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) for all designed parts and assemblies.

Ensure that all documentation is organized and accessible through PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) or ERP systems.

Maintain revision control and design documentation to comply with internal quality processes.
4. Collaboration and Communication

Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and controls engineers, as well as project managers and purchasing departments.

Provide technical input during design reviews, brainstorming sessions, and project planning meetings.

Liaise with vendors, suppliers, and fabricators to clarify design requirements and resolve technical queries.
5. Design Validation and Troubleshooting

Perform design reviews, tolerance analysis, and feasibility studies to validate concepts.

Identify and resolve potential mechanical design issues through simulation, analysis, and prototyping.

Modify existing machine designs to improve efficiency, reduce cost, or incorporate updated components and standards.
6. Project Participation and Management

Lead or participate in small to mid-scale projects including new machine development, product improvement, or cost-reduction initiatives.

Monitor project timelines, maintain schedules, and communicate progress to stakeholders.

Assist with prototype builds, functional testing, and field trials as needed.
