Mechanical Fitter
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
1. Mechanical Assembly and Installation
-
Assemble and install mechanical components, machinery, and industrial equipment as per technical drawings, layouts, or specifications.

Align and position components using measuring instruments and hand tools.
-
Fit bearings, shafts, gearboxes, motors, pumps, valves, and other mechanical assemblies.
-
Install piping systems, supports, and hydraulic or pneumatic lines when required.
2. Maintenance and Repairs
-
Perform routine preventive maintenance on machinery and equipment to reduce downtime and extend service life.

Diagnose mechanical faults and repair or replace worn or damaged parts using appropriate tools and techniques.

Carry out emergency or breakdown maintenance work promptly and efficiently.

Ensure all maintenance activities are carried out in compliance with safety regulations and company procedures.
3. Equipment Testing and Inspection
-
Test mechanical systems for proper functioning after installation or repairs.
-
Inspect machinery and mechanical systems for signs of wear, malfunction, or failure.
-
Use testing equipment, gauges, and measurement tools to ensure components meet specifications and tolerances.

Record and report findings, and take corrective action where necessary.
4. Workshop and Tool Management
-
Maintain tools, machinery, and workshop equipment in good working condition.

Ensure proper use, cleaning, and storage of tools and parts.

Keep the workshop and work area clean, organized, and free from hazards.
-
Report any tool damage, malfunction, or loss immediately to the supervisor.
5. Technical Documentation and Reporting
-
Read and interpret engineering and technical drawings, schematics, and instruction manuals.
-
Maintain accurate records of work performed, parts used, and equipment maintenance history.
-
Assist in updating maintenance logs, checklists, and job sheets as part of compliance and audits.
6. Safety and Compliance
-
Follow all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations during work activities.
-
Participate in safety toolbox talks, risk assessments, and safety drills.
-
Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures where necessary.

Report any unsafe conditions, near misses, or incidents to the safety officer or supervisor.
