Mechanical Fitter
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
1. Machine Assembly:
-
Assemble mechanical equipment and machinery parts according to technical drawings, schematics, and specifications.

Use hand tools (wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, hammers) and power tools (drills, grinders, impact wrenches) to fit and secure parts.
-
Install components such as shafts, bearings, gears, pulleys, couplings, and hydraulic or pneumatic systems as required.

Align and adjust assembled parts to ensure proper function and tolerances.
2. Reading and Interpreting Drawings:
-
Read and interpret detailed engineering blueprints, assembly instructions, and part lists.

Understand mechanical diagrams and layout plans to guide assembly procedures.

Identify and resolve discrepancies between actual parts and drawings.
3. Quality Control:
-
Inspect components and assemblies for defects, alignment, and fit before and after assembly.
-
Ensure all assembly work meets defined quality standards and tolerances.
-
Perform functional testing of assembled equipment when required.
-
Report any faulty components or materials to the supervisor or quality control department.
4. Tool and Equipment Handling:
-
Operate hand and power tools safely and efficiently.
-
Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition.
-
Use measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and levels to verify accuracy during assembly.

Ensure proper use of lifting equipment (hoists, cranes) when handling heavy components.
5. Maintenance and Housekeeping:
-
Keep the work area clean, organized, and free of hazards.
-
Perform routine maintenance on tools and machinery as needed.
-
Follow proper procedures for the storage and disposal of materials and waste.
6. Health and Safety Compliance:
-
Comply with all workplace safety policies and procedures.
-
Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, safety shoes, goggles, and hearing protection.

Report accidents, near misses, or unsafe practices to the supervisor immediately.

Participate in safety training sessions and toolbox talks.
7. Collaboration and Communication:
-
Work closely with engineers, supervisors, and other fitters or technicians to ensure smooth assembly operations.

Communicate issues or delays proactively to avoid production bottlenecks.
-
Provide feedback on design or assembly process improvements.
