Job Description
Quality Line Inspector – Bright Bar Division
DepartmentQuality Assurance / Quality Control
Reporting ToQuality Engineer / QA Manager / Production Head
Job PurposeTo ensure bright bars meet customer, drawing, and standard specifications by carrying out in-process and final inspections across peeling, grinding, straightening, polishing, and packing stages.
Roles & Responsibilities1. Incoming & In-Process InspectionVerify raw material grade, heat number, and mill test certificates (MTC)
Inspect material during:
Peeling
Centerless grinding
Straightening
Polishing
Monitor diameter, ovality, surface finish, straightness, and chamfer
Ensure process parameters are followed as per SOP
Measure:
Diameter (micrometer, snap gauge)
Straightness (straight edge / V-block)
Surface defects (scratches, laps, cracks, pits)
Perform 100% visual inspection for surface quality
Check bar length, end finishing, and rust prevention
Conduct final inspection before packing
Ensure correct:
Bar size & tolerance
Grade marking
Heat number traceability
Approve material for dispatch or rejection
Maintain:
In-process inspection reports
Final inspection reports
Rejection and rework records
Update inspection logs and shift reports
Support ISO 9001 / IATF / customer audits
Identify non-conforming material
Issue rejection tags / hold notes
Coordinate with production for:
Rework
Root cause analysis
Follow corrective & preventive actions (CAPA)
Diameter tolerance (h9 / h11 / customer spec)
Surface roughness (Ra value if required)
Straightness (mm / meter)
Ovality & taper
Decarburization (if applicable)
Visual defects (peel marks, grinding lines)
Outside Micrometer
Snap Gauge / Go-No Go Gauge
Vernier Caliper
Dial Indicator
Straight Edge & V-Block
Surface roughness comparator (if applicable)
ITI / Diploma / BSc (Physics/Maths/Metallurgy)
Freshers and 2–5 years experience in Bright Bar / Steel / Auto Component industry
Strong understanding of bright bar processes
Knowledge of tolerances and GD&T basics
Ability to read drawings and customer specifications
Basic computer skills (Excel, inspection reports)
Attention to detail & discipline
