Job Description
- Transcribing medical records: Transcribing patient information into medical codes, such as CPT and ICD-10 codes
- Ensuring accuracy: Ensuring the accuracy of medical records and codes, and complying with medical coding guidelines and policies
- Analyzing medical records: Analyzing medical records and identifying missing information, documentation deficiencies, and discrepancies
- Conducting chart audits: Conducting chart audits to validate documentation supports services rendered
- Researching and filing: Collecting, researching, and filing patient medical information
- Training and mentoring: Training and mentoring other coding staff, and providing ongoing training as needed
- Providing technical guidance: Providing technical guidance and training on medical coding to physicians and staff
- Assisting with claims: Analyzing medical malpractice claims, reviewing claims, and collaborating with claims examiners
- Identifying quality of care issues: Identifying potential quality of care issues, billing issues, and discrepancies
- Recommending plans of action: Recommending and facilitating plans of action to correct discrepancies and prevent future coding errors
