Job Summary:
A Medical Representative (MR) is a vital link between pharmaceutical companies and healthcare professionals such as doctors, hospitals, and pharmacies. The MR’s primary responsibility is to promote and sell the company’s products — typically prescription drugs, medical devices, or health supplements — by increasing awareness, providing product information, and generating prescriptions.
The role involves regular visits to doctors, chemists, and stockists; building professional relationships; and achieving monthly sales targets. Success in this role requires strong product knowledge, excellent communication skills, confidence, and a results-driven approach.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Product Promotion and Awareness

Promote and present pharmaceutical products to doctors, medical professionals, and healthcare providers.

Deliver product-related information including composition, dosage, benefits, side effects, and comparative advantages.

Conduct product demonstrations where applicable (e.g., devices or equipment).

Ensure ethical promotion aligned with regulatory guidelines and company policies.
2. Territory and Client Management

Manage and develop a designated geographical area to meet or exceed sales targets.

Plan and execute daily visit schedules to doctors (GPs, specialists), chemists, and stockists.

Maintain a strong database of healthcare professionals and institutions within the territory.

Build long-term professional relationships with prescribers to encourage repeat business.
3. Sales Target Achievement

Achieve monthly, quarterly, and yearly sales targets and KPIs set by the management.

Actively generate prescriptions from doctors and track product movement through pharmacies.

Work closely with stockists and distributors to ensure product availability in the supply chain.
4. Reporting and Documentation

Prepare daily call reports (DCRs), feedback forms, and doctor interaction logs.

Submit weekly and monthly performance reports to the Area Sales Manager.

Maintain accurate records of market feedback, competitor activity, and prescriber behavior.
5. Product and Market Knowledge

Keep up-to-date with product developments, market trends, and competitor offerings.

Attend training programs, refresher courses, and company conferences to enhance product and sales knowledge.

Educate doctors about new launches, clinical trials, and scientific studies related to the company’s portfolio.
6. Event Participation and Promotion

Participate in medical camps, promotional events, Continuing Medical Education (CME) sessions, and exhibitions.

Coordinate with marketing teams for promotional campaigns, visual aids, samples, and product literature.

Support brand-building initiatives in the assigned territory.
7. Compliance and Ethics

Follow all company protocols, industry regulations, and ethical guidelines during promotions.

Avoid unethical practices such as unauthorized discounts, misrepresentation, or influencing prescriptions.
