Job Description
- Patient Assessment, Initial Patient care, in
wards, ICCU, Day care & Emergency, to put progress notes & prepare
discharge summaries.
- Treat dialysis patients
- Treat chronic kidney disease for patients
- Provide access management
- Perform hospital rounds
- Perform daily hemodialysis
- Take call
- Anemia management
- Assisting in the diagnosis and management of
all aspects of kidney disease
- Directing and monitoring patient care in
hemodialysis centers
- Evaluation and treatment of kidney stones
- Monitoring hypertension, diabetes, and
dyslipidemia
- Ordering and following up lab and imaging studies
- Providing follow-up care for kidney transplant
patients
- Admission physicals
- Hospital rounds
- Consultations
- Post-surgical follow-ups
- Procedures, such as the placement of vascular
catheters for hemodialysis and plasmapheresis patients.
- Chronic kidney disease
- End-stage renal disease
- Hospitalist care involving acute dialytic
therapy
- Kidney transplantation
- Acute dialytic therapy
- Adjustment of medication doses to GFR
- Anemia
- Care/assessment/management of kidney donors
and recipients, both pre- and post-transplant

who studies, diagnoses and treats illness or disease related to the kidneys.
- Diagnosing
and treating kidney-related illness or disease includes evaluating patients,
performing kidney transplantation and administering dialysis treatments.
- Examines and diagnoses disorders and diseases
of the kidneys.
- Consults with patients to determine the
appropriate course of treatment.
- Recommends and orders tests to determine
extent of illness or help diagnose condition.
- To diagnose,
treat and manage any condition or disease which affects the kidney functions.
This need not necessarily mean only the management of disorders of the kidney,
but also the management of a wide range of systemic disorders, which may be
responsible for malfunctioning of the kidneys which include high blood
pressure, cancers or diabetes.
- A Nephrologist
would have to interact with the patient, take a detailed case history and
determine an appropriate action plan to treatment and management of the
condition.
- The treatment
regimen may include the use of dialysis therapy, which is acts as an artificial
kidney or kidney transplant, in cases of severe and non treatable disorders.
- Many
Nephrologists specialize in specific domains of nephrology, like pediatric
nephrology or glomerulonephritis.
