Position Overview
A Network System Administrator is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and optimization of an organization’s network infrastructure and computer systems. This role ensures that all network and system operations run efficiently, securely, and reliably, supporting the daily business activities. The administrator works closely with IT teams, vendors, and other departments to manage servers, network devices, security protocols, and user support, while proactively identifying and resolving potential issues before they disrupt operations.
The role demands a blend of technical expertise, analytical thinking, and problem-solving abilities, combined with strong communication and organizational skills. A Network System Administrator must also remain updated with the latest technological advancements and cybersecurity best practices.
Key Responsibilities
1. Network Administration

Install, configure, and manage network hardware such as routers, switches, firewalls, and access points.

Monitor network performance to ensure high availability, reliability, and optimal bandwidth usage.

Troubleshoot and resolve network connectivity issues, both wired and wireless.

Maintain and update network diagrams, documentation, and asset inventory.

Manage and configure VPNs (Virtual Private Networks) for remote connectivity.
2. System Administration

Install, configure, and maintain operating systems (Windows, Linux, or macOS) for servers and workstations.

Manage Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy Objects (GPOs).

Perform regular system updates, patches, and backups to ensure system stability and security.

Monitor server performance, capacity, and availability using system monitoring tools.

Ensure data integrity and redundancy through RAID configurations and backup systems.
3. Security Management

Implement and manage firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and antivirus solutions.

Set up user access controls, permissions, and authentication methods to protect sensitive data.

Conduct regular security audits, vulnerability assessments, and penetration testing.

Respond to security breaches and implement preventive measures.

Stay informed about emerging threats, malware, and cybersecurity trends.
4. User Support and Training

Provide technical support to users experiencing network or system-related issues.

Assist with hardware and software installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.

Train staff on IT policies, security best practices, and usage of network resources.

Escalate complex issues to higher-level IT teams or vendors when necessary.
5. Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity

Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans for network and system infrastructure.

6. Collaboration and Documentation

Work with vendors for procurement, warranty claims, and technical support.
