Job Description
Job Summary:
A Network System Administrator is responsible for the daily operations, security, and reliability of an organization’s computer networks and systems. This includes maintaining network infrastructure, configuring hardware and software, monitoring system performance, and ensuring optimal uptime and security. The role is vital for maintaining the smooth operation of enterprise IT systems, supporting both internal staff and external clients.
The ideal candidate should have a solid understanding of networking principles, system administration, cybersecurity practices, and troubleshooting methodologies. This position may involve working independently or as part of a broader IT team.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Network Management and Configuration:

Configure, monitor, and maintain local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), internet connections, and other network segments.

Manage routers, switches, firewalls, access points, VPNs, and other networking hardware and software.

Monitor network performance and optimize as needed to ensure high availability and minimal downtime.

Troubleshoot network connectivity issues and ensure quick resolution of service interruptions.
2. System Administration:

Install, configure, and maintain servers (Windows, Linux, or Unix) including file servers, mail servers, application servers, and domain controllers.

Manage Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policies, and user authentication systems.

Perform regular system updates, patches, and upgrades to maintain security and performance.

Maintain virtual environments (VMware, Hyper-V, etc.) and manage storage solutions such as SAN and NAS.
3. Security and Compliance:

Implement and manage firewalls, antivirus systems, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and endpoint security tools.

Ensure system and network security standards comply with company policies and industry regulations.

Regularly perform vulnerability assessments, system audits, and penetration tests.

Create and maintain backup and disaster recovery procedures to ensure business continuity.
4. User Support and Troubleshooting:

Provide Level 2 and Level 3 support for IT-related issues involving servers, network access, and system errors.

Support helpdesk teams in diagnosing and resolving complex system and network problems.

Set up and manage user accounts, permissions, and access rights.

Educate users on cybersecurity best practices and company IT policies.
5. Monitoring and Reporting:

Use network monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, SolarWinds, PRTG, Zabbix) to track system health and performance.

Log incidents, changes, and service requests according to ITIL or other ITSM frameworks.

Create regular performance reports for network usage, system uptime, and incident resolution.

Recommend improvements based on trend analysis and system reviews.
6. Documentation and Policy Management:

Maintain accurate documentation of network configurations, systems inventory, licenses, and standard operating procedures.

Assist in drafting IT policies, system usage guidelines, and disaster recovery plans.

Document troubleshooting procedures to assist future issue resolution.
