Job Description
- Maintains standards of patient care in the Unit.
- Ensures optimum utilization of resources and quality assurance in service delivery.
- Maintains safe & infection free environment in the Unit
Patient Care
In Labor Room:
- Receives patients who come in for delivery
- Ensures appropriate documentation wherever necessary
- Assists in the process of delivery
- Assists the doctor in conduction of delivery
- Monitors vital signs, fetal heart rate, CTG etc
- Assists in drapes and maintaining sterility of the environment
- Keeps stock of all CSSD items and disposables used within the LR
- Ensure cradle warmer bed is kept ready for the receival of the newborn
- Assists personal hygiene and support for the mother
- Ensures proper segregation of bio-medical waste
In Out-Patient (OP) Areas:
- Able to welcome / receive OP patients
- Round on patients to ensure they are comfortable and do not need assistance
- Check vital signs
- Assists the patients to doctors rooms
- Mobilizes them in wheelchairs, if required
- Assists the doctor and the patient family during child vaccination
- Guides for various procedures
- Performs uroflowmetry, PFT, audiometry
- Assists in Pap smear, biopsy etc
- Ensures proper segregation of bio-medical waste

In In-Patient Areas:
- Able to receive patients and perform vital signs of patient on arrival
- Answers call bell and notifies the nurse if they are needed
- Able to assist doctors in examination of patient
- Able to arrange and tidy patients file during stay and as soon as they are discharged
- Ensures a tidy bed [bed-making] for patients as and when needed
- Assists staff nurses on patient care at the bed side with procedures such as: IV insertion or catheterization or suctioning, positioning patients, feeding bed-ridden patients, assisting during physiotherapy. (ANMs are not allowed to perform these duties independently)
- Assessment of vital signs and documentation of Vital Signs
- Monitoring/Collection of Intake & Outputs and Maintenance of Intake & Output chart/documentation
- Assists mothers with feeding their new-born
- Assistance in giving baby baths, adult baths, & assisting for other hygienic needs.
- Ensures arrangement of the medication and procedure trolley
- Ensures to maintain clean and safe environment for the patient
- Able to accompany stable patients while they are transferred to other departments
- Able to receive pre-operative patients
- Ensures to take inventory of CSSD & other supply such as linen
- Takes responsibility of the upkeep of dressing trolley and replacement of dressing items
- Ensures over-all cleanliness of the unit along with the nurse
- Ensures proper segregation of bio-medical waste In Operational Theatre (OT) Areas:
- Receives pre-operative patients
- Checks for file completion upon receiving patients into OT
- Ensures availability of linen, scrubs and drapes in OT
- Ensures availability of sterile sets /trays of equipment
- Ensures first level washing and packing to CSSD
- Ensures proper segregation of bio-medical waste
In Endoscopy Area:
- Receives pre-endoscopy OP patients
- Labels and sends samples to the lab
- Raises appropriate bill for items used
- Maintains stock count
- Ensures cleanliness of their unit
- Post procedure monitoring of patients
- Ensures proper segregation of bio-medical waste
