Job Description
Perform initial examination, history-taking, and basic investigations for walk-in patients.

Provide basic treatment, first aid, and stabilization before referral to a specialist if needed.

Support senior consultants during OPD consultations and procedures.

Monitor and manage follow-up patients under the guidance of consultants.

Maintain and update patient records, prescriptions, and case summaries in the EMR or manual files.
-
Counsel patients regarding medications, lifestyle changes, and treatment adherence.
-
Coordinate with diagnostic departments (lab, radiology) for timely investigations and results.
-
Ensure smooth patient flow and reduce waiting times through efficient triage and management.

Handle minor medical emergencies within OPD and escalate serious cases appropriately.

Adhere to hospital policies, medical protocols, and ethical standards in all patient interactions.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Initial Patient Assessment
-
Attend to walk-in patients in the OPD and take a detailed medical history.

Conduct physical examinations and record vital signs (BP, pulse, temperature, SpO2, etc.).

Identify symptoms and categorize patients based on urgency or severity.
-
Provide primary diagnosis and initiate basic investigations if necessary.
2. Medical Management
-
Prescribe routine medications and treatments for common or minor ailments as per hospital protocols.

Refer complex or critical cases to senior consultants or specialists promptly.

Administer first aid, injections, vaccinations, or minor procedures when required.

Review investigation reports and update patients on next steps or follow-ups.
3. Patient Counseling and Communication

Explain diagnosis, prescribed medications, and care instructions clearly to patients and their families.

Provide guidance on preventive health measures and lifestyle modifications when appropriate.

Answer basic patient queries regarding conditions, prescriptions, or referrals.
4. Coordination and Support
-
Coordinate with laboratory, pharmacy, radiology, and nursing departments for patient services.

Ensure smooth patient flow and minimal waiting time in the OPD.

Assist consultants during their OPD hours by managing appointments, initial assessments, and follow-up care.
5. Documentation and Record-Keeping

Maintain accurate and timely electronic medical records (EMR) or manual files for all patients seen.

Document prescribed treatments, test results, and clinical notes.

Ensure OPD registers and medical forms are properly filled and updated daily.
6. Emergency Response
-
Handle any medical emergencies that arise in the OPD until the emergency team arrives.

Stabilize patients and shift them to the emergency or IPD as per protocol.

Ensure that emergency equipment in OPD is functional and accessible.
