Job Description – Operations, Health & Safety (OHS) – Telecom
Job Title: Operations & Health and Safety Officer

Job Purpose
Responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant telecom operations, including site activities, tower work, installation, maintenance, and field operations. The role focuses on preventing accidents, ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements, and supporting smooth telecom network operations.
Key Responsibilities
Operations
Coordinate daily telecom field operations and maintenance activities.
Monitor installation, commissioning, and maintenance of telecom equipment.
Coordinate field technicians, contractors, and subcontractors.
Ensure work is completed according to approved procedures, schedules, and quality standards.
Monitor equipment, tools, vehicles, and site resources.
Prepare operational reports and maintain accurate records.
Identify operational risks and recommend improvements.
Health & Safety
Implement and monitor company Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) policies.
Conduct regular safety inspections of telecom sites, towers, offices, and work areas.
Ensure workers follow safe working procedures and use appropriate PPE.
Conduct toolbox talks, safety briefings, and induction training.
Ensure compliance with working-at-height, electrical, lifting, excavation, and confined-space safety requirements where applicable.
Monitor contractor and subcontractor safety performance.
Report, investigate, and document accidents, incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions.
Conduct Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Risk Assessments, and Method Statement reviews.
Ensure emergency procedures and emergency response plans are implemented.
Stop unsafe work when there is an immediate risk to personnel or property.
Telecom-Specific Safety Responsibilities
Ensure proper safety procedures for tower climbing and work at height.
Verify fall-arrest systems, harnesses, ladders, scaffolding, and lifting equipment before use.
Monitor RF/radiation safety controls around telecom antennas.
Ensure electrical isolation and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures are followed.
Check safe access and working conditions at telecom sites.
Ensure proper handling and transportation of batteries, generators, cables, and other telecom equipment.
Monitor risks associated with road travel and field technician activities.
Qualifications
Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field.
HSE/Safety certification such as NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA, or equivalent is preferred.
Relevant experience in telecommunications, construction, infrastructure, or field operations.
Knowledge of workplace safety legislation and industry standards.
Skills & Competencies
