Job Description

Looking for Optometrist for a reputed brand at Bangalore location. BSc or Diploma in optometry is mandatory.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Vision Testing and Eye Examination

  • Conduct comprehensive vision assessments and refraction tests to determine visual acuity, eye coordination, and depth perception.

  • Evaluate patients for myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, presbyopia, and binocular vision anomalies.

  • Use diagnostic instruments like autorefractors, retinoscopes, phoropters, keratometers, and slit lamps.

2. Prescription and Lens Recommendation

  • Prescribe appropriate corrective lenses (glasses or contact lenses) based on the results of vision testing.

  • Recommend specific lens types such as single vision, bifocals, progressives, or specialty lenses for occupational needs or eye conditions.

  • Ensure that prescriptions meet regulatory and optical standards.

3. Detection of Eye Disorders

  • Identify and monitor signs of common eye diseases including glaucoma, cataracts, dry eyes, retinal disorders, and diabetic eye disease.

  • Refer patients to ophthalmologists or specialists for surgical or advanced medical treatment when necessary.

  • Perform screenings for systemic conditions that affect eye health, such as diabetes or hypertension.

4. Patient Consultation and Counseling

  • Educate patients about eye hygiene, digital eye strain, lifestyle modifications, and preventive care.

  • Explain diagnosis, prescription, and treatment plans in a clear and empathetic manner.

  • Address patient concerns regarding eye discomfort, blurry vision, headaches, or lens adjustments.

5. Contact Lens Fitting and Care

  • Perform contact lens fitting and trials, including rigid gas-permeable (RGP), soft, toric, or multifocal lenses.

  • Instruct patients on proper contact lens handling, hygiene, and wearing schedules.

  • Monitor and manage any complications related to lens wear, such as dryness, infection, or corneal abrasions.

6. Use and Maintenance of Equipment

  • Operate and maintain diagnostic tools such as tonometers, fundus cameras, visual field analyzers, and optical coherence tomography (OCT) machines.

  • Calibrate and troubleshoot optometric equipment as needed.

  • Ensure sterilization and safety protocols for instruments and examination rooms.

7. Record Keeping and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including test results, prescriptions, and follow-up notes.

  • Use electronic medical records (EMR) systems or practice management software as required.

  • Assist in generating patient reports, treatment summaries, or referrals when necessary.

8. Inventory and Optical Support (if in retail/clinic)

  • Assist in the selection of frames, lenses, and coatings based on prescription and patient needs.

  • Ensure inventory of contact lenses, trial kits, and diagnostic drops is maintained.

  • Collaborate with optical sales staff to ensure customer satisfaction and clarity of prescription-related queries.

Clinical Expertise:

  • Strong understanding of optometric procedures, eye anatomy, and visual sciences

  • Familiarity with diagnostic tools and up-to-date clinical techniques

Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

  • Patient-centric approach with the ability to communicate medical information clearly and compassionately

  • Strong counseling skills to guide patients on eye care, lens selection, and post-treatment care

Problem Solving and Decision-Making:

  • Analytical ability to assess symptoms and test results to make accurate diagnoses

  • Confidence in clinical decisions and treatment recommendations

  • Proficient in handling optometry software, EMR systems, and digital testing tools
