Job Description

Prepare and arrange surgical instruments and supplies before procedures.
 
Assist surgeons during operations by providing instruments and maintaining a sterile field.
 
Monitor patients' vital signs and anesthesia effects during surgery.
 
Ensure adherence to infection control and sterilization protocols.
 
Maintain accurate surgical records and inventory of OT supplies.
 
Work closely with the surgical team for smooth operation flow.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Pre-Operative Duties:

  • Prepare the operation theatre by ensuring sterility, arranging surgical instruments, and checking equipment functionality.

  • Verify patient identity, consent, and medical history before surgery.

  • Assist in preparing and positioning the patient on the operating table.

  • Ensure availability of all surgical supplies and medications.

2. Intra-Operative Assistance:

  • Assist surgeons during procedures by passing instruments, holding equipment, or managing sutures.

  • Monitor the patient's vital signs, bleeding, and overall condition during surgery.

  • Maintain sterile techniques to prevent infections and contamination.

  • Operate specialized equipment such as suction machines, diathermy units, or endoscopy tools.

3. Post-Operative Care:

  • Assist in transferring patients to the recovery room and monitor their condition post-surgery.

  • Ensure the safe removal and cleaning of surgical instruments and waste disposal.

  • Document the procedure details, used materials, and patient response.

  • Provide post-op care instructions and assist in wound care as needed.

4. Infection Control & Sterilization:

  • Adhere to infection prevention practices and hospital sterilization standards.

  • Sterilize instruments and OT environment before and after every procedure.

  • Handle bio-medical waste as per hospital protocols.

5. Coordination & Communication:

  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other medical professionals to ensure smooth surgical procedures.

  • Report any complications or emergencies immediately to the surgical team.

  • Maintain communication with patient’s family and provide updates when necessary.

6. Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of surgeries, equipment usage, and medications administered.

  • Ensure all reports and logs are completed in compliance with hospital standards.
