Position: Patent Prosecutor


About the role: The automotive industry is undergoing radical disruption with significant changes in technology and IP landscape. In this role, you combine your IP research skills and depth of technology to mine inventions, support creation of strategic IP, and build strong patent portfolio for the future.

Job Responsibilities:  
  • Closely working with R&;D engineers to understand the ongoing programs and identify potential patent creation opportunities. 
  • Assist in drafting Invention Disclosures with potentially broader scope for the identified inventions in Mechanical/Automotive/Electronics/Electro-Mechanical domains
  • Conduct prior art search on Invention Disclosures to enable the Patent Professional to make judgment on patentability. Identify and differentiate the key features of an invention from the environment
  • Interviewing and guiding inventors in converting developing their raw ideas to patentable solutions, and improve Invention Disclosures overcoming prior art limitations
  • Drafting patent applications and preparing office action response on need basis

Skills Required:
  • Well-versed with patent and non-patent search databases
  • Strong experience in independently preparing search strategies and framing search strings for patentability and landscape studies 
  • Independently preparing and reviewing  prior art search reports for invention disclosures
  • Understanding of automotive technology primarily related to electro- mechanical systems (electric drives, electric transmission systems, vehicle interior/exterior, body, powertrain, sensor positioning, batteries etc.) would be preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication - Interviewing inventors, precise understanding and documentation of the inventions

Education and Experience
  • Experience of a minimum of 3 years in patent research, drafting and/or prosecution
  • bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical/automotive/electrical & Electronics Engineering or equivalent.
