Position Summary:
A PCB Designer (Printed Circuit Board Designer) is responsible for designing, developing, and creating layout designs for printed circuit boards used in electronic devices. This role involves working closely with electrical engineers, hardware developers, and production teams to ensure that the PCB layouts meet the performance, reliability, and manufacturing requirements of the product.
The ideal candidate should have a solid understanding of electronic components, circuit design, signal integrity, and manufacturing standards. Proficiency in PCB design software such as Altium Designer, Eagle, OrCAD, or KiCad is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
1. PCB Layout Design

Create PCB layouts based on electrical schematics and mechanical constraints.

Optimize component placement and routing to minimize noise, crosstalk, and power consumption.

Develop multilayer, high-speed, analog, and digital circuit boards as per product specifications.
2. Design Collaboration
-
Work with electrical and mechanical engineers to understand circuit design requirements and mechanical constraints.

Collaborate with firmware, signal integrity, and manufacturing teams during all phases of the PCB development cycle.

Participate in design reviews and suggest improvements in design, placement, and manufacturability.
3. Documentation and File Management

Generate and maintain all design documentation, including schematic diagrams, BOMs (Bill of Materials), Gerber files, pick-and-place files, and assembly drawings.

Ensure accurate version control of files and manage design iterations.
4. Compliance and Standards
-
Design PCBs that meet industry standards such as IPC, EMI/EMC regulations, and thermal management considerations.

Perform Design Rule Checks (DRC), Electrical Rule Checks (ERC), and ensure manufacturability (DFM), testability (DFT), and reliability.
5. Prototype and Production Support

Assist with prototype development by coordinating with PCB fabrication and assembly vendors.

Analyze feedback from testing and production teams to improve the design in future revisions.

Debug layout-related issues in prototypes and suggest necessary design modifications.
6. Continuous Improvement
-
Keep up to date with the latest technologies in PCB design, tools, and standards.

Suggest improvements in design processes and workflows to enhance productivity and quality.

Explore automation or scripting (e.g., using Python in KiCad) to speed up repetitive design tasks.
